Tuesdays Football Bet of the Day see’s me focus solely on the Champions League qualifiers and two teams who should be too strong for their opponents and secure comfortable wins.
Lincoln Red Imps vs CFR Cluj
🇪🇺 UEFA Champions League
⏰ Tuesday 20th July, 17:00
The Lincoln Red Imps host Cluj at the Victoria Stadium in Gibraltar. The Imps have never gotten past this stage of the Champions League whereas Cluj reached the group stages of the Europa League last year.
Lincoln Red Imps qualified for the 2nd round of the qualifies after defeating Luxembourg champions Fola Esch. After a 2-2 draw in Luxembourg, the Imps impressively knocked out their opponents by thrashing them 5-0. As impressive as that was from the Gibraltar champions, this is a real step up in class.
Cluj managed to scrape through to the 2nd round by defeating Bosnian champions Borac Banja Luka after extra time. In previous years Cluj would’ve been knocked out on away goals however with the new rule they managed to go through. Cluj did win the 1st leg 3-1 against the Bosnian champions and after the scare they got in the last round, I’m expecting something similar against a side from a country lower in the coefficient rankings.
Ferencvaros vs Zalgiris Vilnius
🇪🇺 UEFA Champions League
⏰ Tuesday 20th July, 19:00
Ferencvaros host Lithuanian champions at the Groupama Arèna in Budapest. Ferencvaros reached the group stages of the Champions League last year whereas Zalgiris have yet to qualify for the Champions League proper.
Ferencvaros secured their placed to the 2nd round by comfortably defeating Kosovan champions Prishtina 6-1. Ferencvaros won the home leg 3-0 before completing the job with a 1-3 in Kosovo. Whilst this will be a tougher test than their last opponents, Ferencvaros should have more than enough quality to secure another comfortable victory at home.
Lithuanian champions Zalgiris reached the 2nd round by defeating Northern Irish champions Linfield 5-2 on aggregate. After a 3-1 victory in Vilnius, Zalgiris went to Winsdor Park and completed the job with a 1-2 win. This however will be a far tougher test than Linfield with Romania way above Northern Ireland in the club coefficient.
Bet of the Day
Despite scraping through the last round, I’m expecting a much more comfortable passage for Cluj by securing a fairly routine victory. Ferencvaros qualified with ease in the last round and I’m expecting them to comfortably defeat Lithuanian champions at their fortress Groupama Arèna in Budapest.
- Cluj to win & over 1.5 goals
- Ferencvaros to win & over 1.5 goals
- Double Pays 6/5 (BoyleSports)
