Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me focus on the European ties, and there’s one fixture in particular that stands out to me for goals.

Following their 1-1 draw in Germany last week, Union Saint-Gilloise and Bayer Leverkusen meet at the Joseph Marien Stadium in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final in what should be an open affair.
Union Saint-Gilloise have found the back of the net in all bar one of their 22 Pro League and European matches in front of their supporters this season, scoring 44 goals. Karel Geraerts’s hosts have struck on multiple occasions in an incredible 17 (77%) of those fixtures – including in nine of their last 10 – and will be confident of troubling a Leverkusen defence that’s only registered four clean sheets across their previous 16 fixtures – with half of those coming against Hungarian champions Ferencváros in the last round.
Prior to their drab 0-0 draw away at Wolfsburg on Sunday evening, Bayer Leverkusen had found the back of the net in each of their previous 13 Bundesliga and Europa League matches, scoring 31 goals. Xabi Alonso’s visitors have struck on multiple occasions in 11 (85%) of those fixtures – and they will also be confident of breaching a USG defence that’s registered a solitary clean sheet across their previous 12 Pro League/Europa League contests.
Bet of the Day
The first leg somehow only saw two goals, with Leverkusen, in particular, guilty of squandering many presentable chances. Over 2.5 Goals has banked in nine of Union Saint-Gilloise’s previous 11 Pro League/Europa League matches – and given the same has landed in nine of Leverkusen’s last 14 Bundesliga/Europa League contests – I’m happy to have a punt on there to be at least three goals between these two attack-minded sides.
