Friday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me focus on the Euro 2024 qualifiers, and I fancy both to score in one of the least fashionable fixtures.

As expected, Moldova failed to qualify for last year’s World Cup as they finished bottom of their qualifying group, collecting a solitary point from their 10 qualifiers. Serghei Cleșcenco’s men had a far better Nations League campaign, as his side collected 13 points from a possible 18 (W4-D1-L1) in matches against Latvia (133rd), Andorra (153rd) and Lichtenstein (198th) – but ultimately missed out on promotion to League C on goal difference behind the Latvians. The Eastern Europeans scored 10 goals across those six Nations League fixtures, scoring on multiple occasions in five of those.
Similar to their upcoming opponents, the Faroe Islands also failed to qualify for their maiden World Cup finals, as they finished fifth in their qualifying group, one place and three points above Moldova. Håkan Ericson would have been delighted his side maintained their position in League C in the Nations League, as they collected eight points from a possible 18 (W2-D2-L2) in matches against Türkiye (44th), Luxembourg (92nd) and Lithuania (144th) – including a memorable 2-1 victory over the Turks at the end of September. The Faroes have found the back of the net in six of their previous eight competitive fixtures away from home, failing to score at Scotland (42nd) and Türkiye (44th).
Bet of the Day
With all due respect to these two nations, the main aim for both is to avoid finishing bottom of the group, highlighting just how important all three points are in this fixture for both.
Both Teams to Score banked in both meetings when the pair faced off two years ago during the World Cup qualifiers – and given Moldova scored seven goals across their four Nations League fixtures at home last year against similar opposition, and The Faroes have found the back of the net in six of their previous eight competitive internationals on the road – I’m happy to have a punt on these two minnows finding the back of the net in Chișinău on Friday evening.
