Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me focus on the European ties, and one of them in particular appeals to me for goals at both ends.

Fiorentina welcome Swiss side Basel to the Artemio Franchi on Thursday evening in the first leg of their Conference League semi-final.
Fiorentina have struggled to replicate last season’s form in Serie A this campaign, with their 1-0 defeat away at newly-crowned champions Napoli at the weekend seeing them slip to 12th in the table – albeit level on points with 8th-placed Bologna. After seeing off Braga and Turkish side Sivasspor in previous rounds, Vincenzo Italiano’s men finally saw off Lech Poznan – as after winning the first-leg 1-4 in Poland – eventually went through 6-4 on aggregate thanks to a couple of late goals at the Franchi.
Basel have struggled even more than their upcoming opponents domestically this season, with their 0-2 defeat at home to third-bottom FC Zürich at the weekend, leaving them languishing in fifth position in the Swiss Super League table. However, after seeing off Trabzonspor and Slovak champions Slovan Bratislava, and following an entertaining 2-2 draw at home in the first leg, Heiko Vogel’s side knocked out French side Nice in the last round thanks to 1-2 extra-time victory in France.
Bet of the Day
Not only have Fiorentina struck in 14/17 of their home fixtures in Serie A this term, but they’ve scored in all seven of their matches in front of their supporters in Europe – scoring 16 goals across those contests – and it would be a surprise if they failed to breach a Basel defence that has conceded in 8/9 of their away ties in Europe this season – with their solitary clean sheet coming against Lithuanians Žalgiris way back in September.
However, La Viola have recorded just five clean sheets across their 24 league and European fixtures on home turf this campaign – with three of those coming against the current bottom five in the Serie A table and just one coming in Europe – and I can see them conceding against a Basel side that has bagged multiple strikes in eight of their last nine matches in Europe.
