Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me focus on the South American World Cup Qualifiers with both matches not kicking off until the early hours of Friday. I’ve picked out my favourite two selections to give us a nice looking double.
Argentina vs Peru

Argentina host Peru at the Estadio Monumental Antonio Vespucio Liberti in Buenos Aires in a crucial qualifier for both. The hosts currently sit in 2nd, seven points clear of Columbia in 5th. Peru meanwhile sit in 7th, four points behind Columbia.
After a 0-0 draw in Paraguay, Argentina got back to winning ways as they defeated Uruguay in Buenos Aires last time out. That win has Argentina cement their place in second spot as they’re six points above their nearest challengers Ecuador and Uruguay, with them still having a game in hand. Along with Brazil, Argentina are still unbeaten in qualification winning 6/10. Argentina come into this winning three of their last four qualifiers, including back to back 3-0 home wins. Argentina have the second best defensive record in qualifying, conceding only six times. All six of Argentina’s victories have seen fewer than five strikes.
Peru’s quest to make it back to back World Cup’s took a severe hit last time out as they lost to Bolivia in La Paz despite the hosts going down to 10 men when the score was 0-0. Peru have struggled on their travels with only four of their 11 points coming away from home. Peru have failed to score in five of their 11 matches, including in the reverse fixture as Argentina defeated them 0-2. Five of Peru’s defeats in qualifying have seen fewer than five goals.
Chile vs Venezuela

Chile host Venezuela at the Estadio San Carlos de Apoquindo in the capital city of Santiago in another crucial qualifier. Chile lie in 8th position and five points off Columbia whereas Venezuela are rooted to the foot of the table, three points behind their opponents.
After going seven games without a win in qualifying, Chile finally secured a maximum as they defeated Paraguay in Santiago last time out. That was a vital result for the Chileans as it kept their World Cup hopes still alive but they must secure another three points here at home to Venezuela. Chile have actually only lost once at home in qualifying and to be fair that was a narrow 0-1 loss to runaway leaders Brazil. Chile are unbeaten in their last four World Cup qualifiers at home to Venezuela, winning three.
Venezuela secured only their second win in qualifying as they came from behind to defeat Ecuador in Caracas. That takes Venezuela to seven points but all seven of them have came on home turf. Venezuela have lost all five qualifiers away from home so far, including against Bolivia, Peru and Paraguay, three of the sides who aren’t in the top five currently. In those defeats, Venezuela have conceded 10 goals, scoring just a paltry two goals.
Bet of the Day
Argentina are on course to qualify for next years World Cup in Qatar and should dispose of Peru at their Buenos Aires base. Argentina are unbeaten in their five qualifiers at home to Peru this century, winning four and should defeat a Peru side who’ll be short of confidence after their defeat to Bolivia last time out. Argentina have only conceded six times in qualifying so I’m happy to add under five goals along with the win. Chile recorded a crucial victory at home to Paraguay last time out and know they require another victory here to keep their World Cup hopes alive. They should defeat a Venezuela side who sit bottom of the table and who struggle on their travels.
