Norway welcome Serbia to the Ullevaal Stadion this evening in what is effectively a straight shoot-out for promotion to League A.
Norway made a strong start to their Nations League campaign, as they completed the double over near-neighbours Sweden, won away in Serbia and drew at home to Slovenia to leave them three points clear at the top of Group B4. It looked like that that unbeaten run would continue as they took the lead in Ljubljana on Saturday, however, Stäle Solbakken’s conceded twice in the final 20 minutes to lose 2-1 to Slovenia. The Lions have found the back of the net in 12 of their last 15 meaningful matches, scoring seven goals in their five Nations League outings. Norway have conceded in three of their last four group matches, conceding twice in each of their last two.
Serbia have responded strongly following their opening day defeat in the reverse fixture against Norway, as they have gone on to take 10 points from the next 12 available. The latest of those points were earned on Saturday, as they came from a goal down to emphatically defeat Sweden 4-1 in Belgrade. Dragan Stoiković’s side have found the back of the net in 12 of their previous 13 competitive fixtures and come into this having scored 11 goals in their last four matches. The Eagles have conceded in 11 of those 13 matches, with their two clean sheets coming against an out-of-form Sweden side and minnows Luxembourg.
Bet of the Day
Serbia travel to Norway knowing they must collect all three points if they are to leapfrog their opponents and earn promotion to League A. The Serbs come into this having won three and drawn one of their last four but face a Norway side that are unbeaten in each of their last six competitive fixtures on home turf.
These two nations rarely fail to find the back of the net and given they possess two of the most in-form strikers in Europe, I’m happy to back both sides scoring here.
