Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me focus on the Europa League and Group G in particular. I’ve picked a selection from each game in Group G which I like the look of to give us a nice odds against double.
Bayer Leverkusen vs Celtic
🇪🇺 Europa League
⏰ Thursday 25th November, 17:45
Celtic travel to Germany to take on Bayer Leverkusen at the BayArena in a vital match for both sides. Bayer Leverkusen lead the way on 10 points and know a win will seal qualification, whereas Celtic need the three points to keep their hopes of qualification alive.
Bayer Leverkusen thrashed Real Betis 4-0 last time out to go three points clear at the top of Group G. Bayer have taken 10 points from their opening four matches in the group, scoring 11 goals. Domestically, Leverkusen secured their first win in five at the weekend, as they scraped past newly promoted Bochum 1-0. That win at the weekend was also Leverkusen’s first clean in five Bundesliga matches, with them conceding 10 goals in those previous four matches.
Celtic kept their qualification hopes alive with back to back victories over Hungarian champions Ferencvaros in their last two group games. Celtic were deserving victors in both matches, scoring five times over the two games. Celtic have actually scored three goals in both of their away games in the group but lost 4-3 to Real Betis in the first of those away games, highlighting the Scottish sides struggles defensively in Europe. Celtic also conceded four in the reverse fixture with Leverkusen at Celtic Park and have conceded 10 goals in their four group games.
Real Betis vs Ferencvaros
🇪🇺 Europa League
⏰ Thursday 25th November, 17:45
Real Betis play host to Ferencvaros at the Benito Villamarin in a game they’ll be aiming to secure all three points in. Betis are in 2nd place in Group G, only one point above Celtic, whereas Ferencvaros are already eliminated from the competition and are yet to collect a single point.
Real Betis were thrashed 4-0 in Germany by Bayer Leverkusen last time out which saw them fall three points behind the German side in Group G. Betis started off their campaign with successive victories over both Celtic and Ferencvaros, scoring seven goals before drawing 1-1 with Leverkusen at home. After successive defeats in La Liga by champions Atletico and bitter rivals Sevilla, Betis got back to winning ways with a moral boosting 0-3 win over Elche. Before defeat to Sevilla, Betis had won their three previous home matches in La Liga, scoring on multiple occasions in each.
Ferencvaros’s hopes of playing European football in the new year were ended as they suffered back to back defeats against Celtic. Ferencvaros were second best in both encounters with the Scottish side, and were perhaps fortunate only to concede five goals over the two games. In truth, the Hungarian champions have been poor in all four of the group games and look way out of their depth. Not only have they lost all four games, they’ve conceded 10 goals, conceding on multiple occasions in each defeat.
Bet of the Day
Bayer Leverkusen and Celtic are two sides who are far better going forward than they are defensively, therefore I’m expecting an open match at the BayArena. Leverkusen may have won the reverse fixture 0-4, but that was due to how clinical the German side were in front of goal and how wasteful Celtic were. Given both sides style of play and the fact they both need the points, there should be goals here and I fancy both sides to find the back of the net. Manuel Pellegrini will have marked this game down as a must win if they hope to qualify out of Group G. They face a Ferencvaros side who have been pretty hopeless throughout the whole campaign, losing all four games, conceding 10 goals. Betis won the reverse fixture 1-3 and I’m expecting them to win once more in Andalusia. Ferencvaros have conceded on multiple occasions in all four of their defeats in the group and with Betis already finding the back of the net eight times, I’m happy to add in Betis to score at least twice along with the win.
- Bayer Leverkusen vs Celtic – Both Teams to Score
- Real Betis to win & over 1.5 goals
- Double Pays 13/10 (Betway/William Hill)
