It is Fontwell’s richest and most prestigious race of the year on Sunday, as the National Spirit Hurdle takes centre stage at the West Sussex-based racecourse.
The action takes place between 1.50-4.50 and you can watch it all via live streaming when logged into MansionBet – alongside all the action from the UK and Ireland. Our tipster has previewed Fontwell’s Sunday card.
1.50 – Land & Power Ltd. Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase (2m3½f)
Just four runners are set to line up in the opener on this card and the stand-out runner is NASSALAM. This novice chaser won a Grade Two contest on just his second career outing at Newbury. He has to carry top weight in this race, but he should be able to add to his tally.
Selection: Nassalam @ 2/5
2.20 – Royal Equestrian Bedding Handicap Chase (2m5½f)
CONCRETE KING is set for his second start over fences in this handicap chase. He finished third of 14 on his opening outing over timber at Clonmel. This horse has been running well over hurdles this season. The former points winner may be off a very lenient mark on his return to chasing.
Selection: Concrete King @ 2/1
2.50 – Royalequestrian Bedding And Manor Elite Horsebox National Spirit Hurdle (2m3f – Grade 2)
It is a strong renewal of the National Spirit Hurdle, the feature race on this card. Last year’s winner BREWIN’UPASTORM is back to defend his crown and Olly Murphy’s hurdler is the one they may all have to beat. He looked in great form on his latest appearance at Lingfield (2m3½f). He is the highest rated horse in this field, and he can prove his class in this Grade Two contest.
Selection: Brewin’upastorm @15/8
3.20 – Manor Elite Horsebox Novices’ Hurdle (2m3f)
There are just three runners in this novice hurdle, with Gelino Bello now out of the race. On paper, JERRASH is a long way ahead of his rivals. Not only is he the only winner in the field, he finished third in a Listed contest on his last start. Gary Moore’s runner ought to be able to take the first prize with relative ease.
Selection: Jerrash @ 3/10
3.50 – Royalequestrian Bedding And Manor Elite Horsebox Handicap Hurdle (2m5½f)
WALKONTHEWILDSIDE has shown some promise since going over hurdles. He was fourth of nine runners on his latest effort at Huntingdon (2m). Olly Murphy’s runner is now set for his handicap debut. He remains open to improvement, and he should be able to take advantage of this opening mark.
Selection: Walkonthewildside @ 10/3
4.20 – Manor Elite Horse Box Open Hunters’ Chase (3m2f)
Robert Waley-Cohen recently purchased JETT with the view of running him in the Grand National in April. This horse scored at Kelso (2m7½f) on his opening outing for his new connections. Expect to see him dominate this hunters’ chase despite carrying top weight.
Selection: Jett @ 8/15
4.50 – Royalequestrian Bedding Supports Little Princess Trust Open Maiden NH Flat Race (2m1½f)
MOUNT SOUTH hit the frame on his sole start at Navan (2m) back in December. He has since moved to Ian Williams’ yard. With that experience now on his side, we are likely to see more from the five-year-old gelding.
Selection: Mount South @ 5/4
