Unbeaten, Sporting Lisbon continue to stroll towards their first Portuguese championship in 19 years. The capital city leads the Primeira Liga table by six points over FC Porto. Recently, however, Rúben Amorim’s side failed to get beyond the draw twice in a row. With eight matchdays to go before the end of the season, SC Farense, who are in danger of relegation, will have to avoid showing weakness for a third time in a row.
Farense SC were promoted to the Primeira Liga last summer and currently occupy a direct relegation spot. However, they are only three points behind the relegation zone and only two points away from it. The Algarve side have a lot at stake.
However, we don’t think the promoted team has much of a chance against the league leaders. In our opinion, there is no alternative but to play Farense against Sporting Lisbon with tip 2.
Prediction & Live Odds for Farense vs. Sporting Lissabon 16/04/2021
Our prediction for Farense against Sporting Lisbon is influenced by the visitors’ extremely strong defence. The Green-Whites have conceded only 0.5 goals on average. They have the best prerequisites to keep the defensive zero at a club that is weak offensively and in danger of relegation.
Since there is a very good chance that the visitors will have enough offensive punch to score at least one away goal, the value for bet 2 is high.
For an away win for the Verde e brancos, odds of 1.55 are available for Farense against Sporting Lisbon. ✅
Farense – Statistics & Current Form
Sporting Clube Farense was founded 111 years ago on 1 April 1910 as a farm team of today’s guests Sporting Lisbon. The aim was to discover talented players in the south of the country, to promote them and, if they developed accordingly, to bind them to the club from the capital.
Accordingly, the team from Faro also bears the lion in its logo and is nicknamed Leões de Faro. In the meantime, however, the traditional club has become completely self-sufficient, once reaching the final of the Taca de Portugal in 1990 and even playing in the UEFA Cup in 1995/96.
Ten out of a possible 33 points from the last eleven league games
The Black and Whites most recently returned to the Primeira Liga last summer as runners-up in the Liga Pro, but things have not gone too well there so far. Eight matchdays before the end of the season, the men from the Algarve are in second-to-last place, which is why they made changes to the coaching staff two months ago.
Under Jorge Costa, the two basement duels against CD Nacional and Boavista Porto were won. In total, however, only ten points out of a possible 33 were scored in the eleven league games under the new coach.
9:13 goals from the eleven games under Jorge Costa
The 49-year-old was able to stabilise the defence of the Leões de Faro. In the eleven games under his leadership, only 13 goals were conceded. However, Jorge Costa has not yet been able to get to grips with the attacking stalemate. The average of just over one goal conceded compares with a yield of only nine goals from 13 games.
Overall, the Black and Whites have the third weakest attack in the entire Primeira Liga, which is why the role of favourite is clearly assigned in the run-up to this match. Bwin, the bookmaker tested by Wettbasis, is offering odds of 7.00 for a home win for Farense against Sporting Lisbon, who have not won a home game against their current guests for more than 20 years.
Predicted Farense line-up:
Beto – Abner – Mancha – Martins – Tavares – Oudrihiri – Lucca – Queta – Gauld – Aouacheria – Henrique
Sporting Lisbon – Statistics & current form
Thirteen months ago, Rúben Amorim took over as coach of Sporting Lisbon, a club with a long tradition in the Primeira Liga that was in danger of once again losing its role as the main rivals to city rivals Benfica and FC Porto.
Despite a solid final spurt, even the new coach could not prevent the club from finishing in fourth place in the final table. The Verde e brancos (the green and white), who had not won a national championship for 19 years, seemed to have finally left the national three-way competition, which seemed to have become a two-way fight.
Not a single defeat after 26 league games
Sporting Lisbon, however, made an impressive comeback last summer. Some really strong decisions were made in the transfer market. Above all, the signing of Pedro Goncalves from Farmalicao, who is the Leões’ top scorer with 16 goals and four assists, turned out to be a stroke of luck.
It is also thanks to him that the capital city team is stronger than it has been for a long time this season. After 26 league games, the Verde e brancos are still unbeaten with 20 wins and six draws. However, two of the six draws have come in the last two league games.
Only 0.5 goals conceded per league match
Accordingly, there is great concern that the Leões could collapse so close to achieving their big goal. Especially offensively, they have faltered time and again in the last six games with only six goals scored, which is why “only” twelve of 18 points have been taken.
Nevertheless, we see Farense against Sporting Lisbon as a safe bet with tip 2. After all, the Verde e brancos have a real concrete defence with only 13 goals conceded from 26 league games – and thus 0.5 goals conceded per game. That should be able to lay the foundations for another important three-goal win in Faro against the offensively weak home side.
Predicted line-up of Sporting Lisbon:
Adán – Feddal – Coates – Neto – Mendes – Porro – Palhinha – Goncalves – Mário – Tomás – Paulinho
