Thousands of players made transfers to take advantage of the added fixtures, only to see more postponements due to Covid-19. We wrote last week that this was becoming a bit of a chore, and at the time of writing, we are still unsure if GWK23 will become a double gameweek, ideal, right?
While our suggested team for GWK22 did OK, it could have been so much sweeter.
Those that selected Bruno Fernandes instead of Cristiano Ronaldo had a field day, with the midfielder netting over 50 points as captain.
After watching Wednesday’s game against Brentford through my hands, it is now time to look ahead to GWK23.
Aston Villa may be given another fixture, but readers will have to make their own minds up just before the deadline.
With more indecision surrounding the gameweek, we have picked another team for the weekend only.
Goalkeeper – Aaron Ramsdale
Our old favourite returns as Arsenal prepare to tackle Burnley. The Clarets have got five games to catch up on due to their postponements this season, and after selling Chris Wood, it is difficult to see where the goals come from.
A home win to nil is priced at 11/10, and that looks one of the bets of the weekend, with Burnley rock bottom of the table.
Defenders – Antonio Rudiger, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Lucas Digne, Cancelo
TAA delivered for us once again last weekend, and with a trip to face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on the agenda, he stays firmly in our starting XI.
Rudiger scored during his last appearance against Spurs, so he also stays put, while Cancelo should be able to collect points against Southampton at St Mary’s.
Digne faces his former club Everton, so he will be doing all he can to score, and he could play twice this week.
Midfielders – Jarrod Bowen, Diogo Jota, James Maddison, Phil Foden
Bowen still registered a goal during West Ham’s defeat to Leeds, and with Manchester United up next, he can trouble their fragile defence.
Jota will lead the line for the Reds, with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane still away at AFCON, and he is always in the thick of things in the final third.
Maddison has rediscovered his magic touch in recent weeks and is scoring points for fun. After Wednesday’s embarrassing defeat to Spurs, Leicester will be itching to set the record straight against Brighton.
Considering Pep Guardiola’s rotation policy, Foden is a risky pick, but he can unlock the Southampton defence at a canter.
Strikers – Emmanuel Dennis, Michail Antonio
Antonio could be making his final appearance for a while in our Dream Team, but with Manchester United continuing to show signs of vulnerability, he stays put. I’m sure I have written that about ten times this season, but hey, ho!
Last but not least is Dennis. All hands on deck for Watford really on Friday. Beat Norwich at home, and there’s breathing space at the bottom, and Dennis looks a good bet to score anytime at 6/5.
Captain – Diogo Jota
