While other countries relax over winter, England is famous for its non-stop fixture schedule as fans overindulge on huge portions of food while their sporting heroes do battle.
Usually, the festive period is enjoyable, but it looks like we could be in for a tough few weeks in the FPL world.
Injuries are starting to creep in, but the ongoing Covid-19 crisis is beginning to cause problems across the league.
The likes of Aston Villa, Leicester City, Manchester United and Tottenham have confirmed numerous cases, and FPL players need to start planning for potential postponements.
Last week, our team scored 63 points, which was a fine return considering two of our midfielders did not play.
Mohamed Salah continues to lead the way while our defence came up trumps, with all of our backline scoring more than two points.
The best way to navigate this tricky period is to have a playable bench, as games might get called off at short notice.
It would also be wise to bank transfers unless your team desperately needs some TLC.
This week, a suspension to Joao Cancelo means we will make one change to our ranks, with Diogo Dalot given the mod.
Goalkeeper – Aaron Ramsdale
What a man Aaron Ramsdale is. The Arsenal stopper has picked up some valuable points for us of late, but he led the way in the goalkeeper ranks this week after scoring 11 points.
He is up against West Ham this weekend, and while some readers may panic at the thought, the Hammers failed to score against Burnley on Sunday.
Arsenal look to have turned a corner of late and a home win against David Moyes’ side appeals at 23/20.
Defenders – Diogo Dalot, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Antonio Rudiger, Ben White
We wouldn’t have an Arsenal double-up against the Hammers in an ideal world, but White remains in our defence after a clean sheet last time out.
If the Hammers have another off night, then a double clean sheet could give players a great chance of climbing up those mini-leagues.
Dalot seems to be Ralf Rangnick’s first-choice right-back for now, and he is relatively cheap at £4.4million. He has scored 14 points since Rangnick took charge, so he looks like the best budget defender to own at the moment.
United also look good value to win to nil this week, with punters able to back it at 43/20.
Alexander-Arnold and Rudiger both look like they could pick up clean sheets this week, with games against Newcastle and Everton to come.
Rudiger also got two assists against Leeds United, and it makes no sense to change our defence, which has scored really well for us of late.
Midfielders – Mohamed Salah, Emile Smith Rowe, Son Heung Min, Diogo Jota
There’s no point in wasting your time and writing a paragraph on Salah.
Salah vs Newcastle should = points. That’s pretty much the gist of our argument.
Smith Rowe missed Arsenal’s win over Southampton, but he was fit enough to be on the bench, so he stays put. Should Spurs’ fixture go ahead, then Son looks in good form, while Jota also appears to have shaken off an injury.
Forwards – Michail Antonio, Josh King
King failed to score against Brentford, but he has some good fixtures on the horizon, as does Antonio, who also blanked this weekend.
We may have to play the long game with both of our forwards at the moment, with their fixtures really difficult to overlook for now.
Captain – Mohamed Salah
