Entropiq won their ESL Pro League Season 14 opener against FURIA Esports (2-0) on Wednesday with 16-14 on Overpass and 16-13 on Ancient. It was a relatively close affair, but there is no denying that Entropiq were the better team on the day.
Although a deserved win, we wouldn’t put too much weight on the result, considering it was the teams’ first match after the player break. Similarly, it doesn’t make much sense to overthink Team Liquid’s showings against Ninjas in Pyjamas.
Team Liquid enter this match as $1.50 favourites, which might make sense, but that price seems to be based mainly on the brand value. You can’t justify saying that Liquid are that much better than Entropiq, even though the Russians have spent the last couple of months playing against second-tier opposition.
Alexey “NickelBack” Trofimov and his crew can match Team Liquid on the individual level, and while they might not have the brains of Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo, Entropiq have the “CIS firepower”, which has proven to be tough to deal with even for the best European and North American CS:GO teams. Entropiq shouldn’t be priced as high as they are, making this a great value bet.
Entropiq to win

FURIA Esports lost their opening match against Entropiq (0-2), which isn’t too surprising. Although we trusted the Brazilians to deliver, it was only later revealed that FURIA would be playing with their head coach Nicolas “guerri” Nogueira as a replacement for Lucas “honda” Cano, who decided against travelling to Europe after his mother tested positive for COVID-19.
Guerri has achieved a lot during his time as a CS:GO pro; however, those days are long gone, and he is no longer as efficient as he was back in 2018. Against Entropiq, he has averaged a poor 0.89 rating, and we don’t expect him to do much better against the current world no.2, Gambit Esports.
Even with a full squad, FURIA would struggle against Gambit, who are one of the top teams in the world. Gambit Esports with a -1.5 map handicap pays $1.53, which is a bit short, so we will instead take the under total rounds and trust the Russians to keep FURIA under double digits on both maps.
Under 55.5 total rounds
