IT’S derby weekend in England with big games such as Spurs v Arsenal, Everton v Liverpool, Chelsea v Fulham and Sheff Wed v Sheff United.
Monday’s battle of the Steelmen could be the best of the lot but I’m focusing on a match that slides under the radar.
Brighton v Huddersfield probably won’t feature high up on Match of the Day’s running order but a best price of just under evens on the home looks a steal.
Chris Hughton’s men haven’t won in 2019 and are now just two points clear of the drop zone.
Fulham and Huddersfield have virtually gone and it looks like Cardiff, Brighton or Southampton to join them.
Brighton have made the FA quarters and will be confident of beating Millwall but the Premier League is the bread and butter and they don’t want a glory cup run costing them top-flight status.
At home they’ve picked up 19 points while Huddersfield have just two on their travels. Jan Siewert ended a run of five defeats with his first points at home to Wolves in midweek.
That will give his men hope but home advantage should see Brighton over the line and I like 22-25 at Marathonbet.
Glenn Murray blazed a sitter over the bar in the 2-1 defeat at Leicester but could make amends today. He is 7-2 at bet365 to score first.
So what about the derbies. First up it’s the North London meeting of Spurs and Arsenal and the home men are in desperate need of the points.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side are in danger of missing out on a top-four place after back-to-back defeats against Burnley and Chelsea in the face of a revival by the Gunners and Man United.
But they’ve a good record against their rivals whose away form is shocking – one win in seven and that being at Hudderfield.
Forget about the draw – Spurs haven’t had any this season – and risk the home win at 11-10 with Marathonbet.
Harry Kane has netted eight in nine derbies and is 21-20 at Ladbrokes to score at any time.
Spurs v Arsenal games have been more exciting than Everton v Liverpool in recent years.
The last four meetings at Goodison have produced a paltry three goals so under 2.5 looks a good shout.
Liverpool were back to their free-flowing best against Watford in midweek but have struggled on the road and while they should win it will be close. Best bet could be Liverpool and under 3.5 goals at 7-5 with Betway but Kevin disagrees so check out his preview.
Man City have never lost to Bournemouth and should sweep aside an outfit that lost 5-1 at Arsenal in midweek. Take City and over 3-5 goals at 13-10 with Ladbrokes.
Fulham sacked Claudio Ranieri ahead of his return to Chelsea and another former Stamford Bridge stalwart Scott Parker is in charge.
It’s a tough assignment against a side who played well in the EFL Cup Final then beat Spurs in midweek. Back the Blues and while 1-2 at bet365 isn’t great I’d add Man United to beat Southampton at home for a 13-10 double.
In the Championship I like Swansea at home to Bolton while Middlesbrough should win at Wigan.
League One best bets are Luton at home to Rochdale even though they let me down last weekend and I’m backing Bury and btts at home to Macclesfield and on-form Grimsby at home to a Cambridge side short of players.
