EDWARD GAMING vs VICTORY FIVE LPL SUMMER BETTING PREVIEW
Victory Five will look to secure their 11th win of the split when they face EDward Gaming this Tuesday during the final week of the League of Legends Pro League (LPL) 2020 Summer regular season.
EDward Gaming, the most successful team in LPL history, are on the brink of missing out on the playoffs for the first time since their inception in 2014. Even though they are no longer the powerhouse they were in 2014-2018, EDward have consistently challenged for silverware up until this year. They made it to the finals of the 2020 Demacia Cup and later finished fifth-sixth in the LPL Spring.
EDward Gaming’s run through LPL Summer, however, has been anything but promising. While they have shown they can compete against the LPL’s top dogs, Lee “Scout” Ye-chan and his crew also dropped games they otherwise should have won. They enter the final week of the regular season with a 6-8 record, meaning they need to win their last two games against Victory Five and eStar to have any chance of reaching the postseason.
Scout and co. managed a reverse sweep against the well-coached ViCi Gaming and narrowly lost 1-2 to FunPlus Phoenix during Week 9, to which they added two convincing 2-0 wins against LNG Esports and Bilibili Gaming in Week 10. EDward’s wins against LNG Esports and Bilibili Gaming were fairly one-sided, thanks to phenomenal performances from ADC Wang “Hope” Jie (22 KDA), top laner Huang “xiaoxiang” Xiang (7.5 KDA) and mid laner Scout (20 KDA).

After finishing LPL Spring 2020 in last place with a 0-16 record, Victory Five opted to freshen up their roster with the addition top laner Yu “Biubiu” Lei-Xin, junglers Chang “ping” Ping and Wei “Weiwei” Bo-Han, ADC Lee “Samd” Jae-hoon and support Guo “ppgod” Peng. The changes were hardly regarded as ground-breaking at the time, but the team’s results since tell a very different story.
Victory Five enter their second-to-last fixture of the regular season with a 10-4 record. Not only does that guarantee the organisation’s first-ever postseason appearance, it also puts them in contention for a quarter-finals bye.
V5 were unfortunate to lose to Invictus Gaming (1-2) and the surging Suning (1-2) in Week 8, but they bounced back with a 2-1 win against Team WE last Thursday and a stunning 2-1 result against JD Gaming on Sunday.
Consistency against the top LPL teams has never been Victory Five’s strong suit; however, after they ended the reigning LPL champions’ 11-game winning streak in such impressive fashion, it’s hard to question V5’s strength and their ability to contest the LPL Summer 2020 crown.
EDWARD GAMING vs VICTORY FIVE LPL SUMMER BETTING PREDICTIONS
EDward Gaming can’t afford to lose this game if they want to reach the playoffs, and their chances of reach the postseason rely solely on FunPlus Phoenix losing to Dominus Esports on Monday. That outcome is very unlikely, so it’s safe to assume that by the time this fixture rolls around, EDward will already be looking towards the 2021 season.
It’s a completely different story for Victory Five, who are desperate to win the remaining two games of the regular season and secure a quarter-finals seed. The motivation to win will play a huge role here, and we can’t forget V5’s dominant performance against JD Gaming over the weekend.
Victory Five have consistently beaten mid-table teams this split, and there is no reason to believe this game will be any different. Back the favourites to win it in a sweep.
