Last week’s Bundesliga action featured a number of high-octane affairs with Bayern Munich edging Leipzig 3-2 and Borussia Dortmund losing 5-2 at home to improving Bayer Leverkusen and this weekend could also throw up some intriguing results.
Goals Could be on the Cards at the Stadion An der Alten Forsterei
Although Dortmund are in pole position to land second spot in the Bundesliga, they will be looking over their shoulders after the defeat to Leverkusen and should be especially cautious of Sunday’s opponents Union Berlin when they travel to the Stadion An der Alten Forsterei.
Union suffered a setback at Augsburg last time out, losing 2-0, but had won four and drawn one of their five competitive matches beforehand.
They pushed Dortmund close in a 4-2 loss in the reverse fixture earlier this season and goals could again be on the cards with over 3.5 goals worth considering at 6/4.
Given Dortmund’s inconsistencies this season, Union could also be worth chancing at 3/1 to win with the visitors priced at 20/23.
Bochum Could pose Problems for Bayern
Another of this weekend’s Bundesliga matches which could be a high-scoring affair is Bochum’s home clash with Bayern Munich on Saturday.
When these teams locked horns back in September, it was one-way traffic as Bayern prevailed 7-0 but Bochum have since found their feet and now even have an outside shot at a European berth this season.
They have claimed the scalps of Hoffenheim, Wolfsburg and Freiburg at home since the beginning of November, whilst having also held Borussia Dortmund to a draw, and punters may not want to rush to back Bayern Munich at 2/9 to win at the Ruhrstadion.
Instead, Bochum, who are through to the quarter-finals of the DFB Pokal this season, have seen both teams score in each of their last three matches and that could be the best bet at 4/6.
Freiburg Can Get Back on Track Against Mainz
Top-four hopefuls Freiburg failed to capitalise on Union Berlin’s loss to Augsburg on Saturday, having themselves lost 1-0 to Cologne on the same day.
But their game with the Billy Goats could have gone either way and they had claimed wins over Hoffenheim and Stuttgart beforehand.
They have picked up 18 of their 33 points on home soil this season and are worth considering at 20/23 to beat Mainz, who have lost three of their last four matches in all competitions and are 12/5 to come out on top. The draw is 12/5.
Frankfurt and Wolfsburg Set For Low-Scoring Clash
In previous seasons Eintracht Frankfurt v Wolfsburg would have been a key game in the battle for European places but both clubs have fallen on hard times and this is instead set to be a scrappy mid-table encounter.
Wolfsburg thumped basement boys Greuther Furth 4-1 last time out but their three matches before that produced a total of only three goals, while three of Frankfurt’s last four games have featured fewer than three goals. At 10/11, under 2.5 goals could be the way to play it.
