Joe Cullen’s victory in last week’s Cazoo Premier League Darts means there have now been six individual winners during seven nights of action. Only Michael Smith and James Wade have failed to take a nightly final. Week 8 comes from the Utilita Arena in Birmingham. Scroll on for our Premier League Darts tips and odds.
But the action is still competitive. Smith and Wade may have been first-round casualties seven days ago in Rotterdam, but they were beaten by the minimum 6-5 score-line. In fact, every first-round match last week went to a deciding leg. It highlights the competitive nature of the 2022 Premier League Darts season.
From Worth of Price Championship Win is Questionable
Away from the TV cameras and huge crowds, there were two Players Championship competitions staged during the weekend. Both took place in Germany, Gerwyn Price won the first contest, Michael van Gerwen took the second.
The form of van Gerwen’s success seems rock solid. However, Gerwyn Price was clearly very fortunate to win. Semi-final opponent, Rob Cross missed a dozen match darts to close out the game and then, in the final, the Welshman squandered five match starts before taking the contest.
Price plays Joe Cullen on Thursday evening and, despite being a strong favourite, Cullen looks the better bet. For starters, Cullen has the better Premier League Darts record and sits above his rival in the fourth spot in the league rankings.
Joe Cullen to Beat Price on Two Fronts
But it is the confidence that Cullen can bring to week 8, staged in Birmingham, that makes him the better bet, particularly at odds of 11/8.
Beating van Gerwen on home soil last time was no mean feat. He can build on that performance and get one over on his Welsh rival for the second time in the 2022 Premier League.
There’s a suspicion Gerwyn Price has gone off the boil. After all, he has been a first-round casualty in four of the seven first-round Premier League matches he has played in 2022.
A secondary bet in this game comes in the 180 betting market. Cullen has recorded no less than 42 180’s during the league. That is matched only by Michael van Gerwen – and he has played three more matches!
Meanwhile, Price has only landed 23 maximum 180 scores – that’s the lowest number of any player in the competition. 5/6 about Cullen outscoring Price on the 180 market simply looks huge.
Peter Wright Has Leg Advantage Over Most
Only two players in the 2022 Premier League Darts have a positive and leg difference. Michael van Gerwen leads the way with a whopping +27, Peter Wright follows registering three more leg wins than overall leg losses (+3 legs). Sitting at the bottom of this list are James Wade (-8 legs) and Gary Anderson (-6 legs).
Anderson was very unhappy about something last week and had words on stage with Johnny Clayton. Afterwards, pundits appeared to condemn the two-time world champion’s antics. Will this affect him this week?
His win on night 6 of the Premier League was a huge upset and the likelihood of lightning striking again this week is surely remote.
Anderson plays former Scottish teammate Peter Wright in Thursday’s opening round. With Wright garnering 14 Premier League points compared to Anderson’s 7, this is an easy one to call.
At 1/2 Wright is too short to play as a straight win bet. But the minus 1.5-leg handicap offers up ‘Snakebite’ at odds of 5/6 and from a vale perspective, that looks a better bet.
