The Kansas City Chiefs have dominated the AFC West in recent years, and the reigning Super Bowl champions will be hoping to make it five in a row this season.
Andy Reid’s men finally got their hands on the Vince Lombardi trophy as they won the organisation’s first Super Bowl in 50 years in February.
Star-quarterback Patrick Mahomes produced some magical moments to help his team come back from behind as they stunned the San Francisco 49ers 31-20 in Miami.
The 24-year-old helped Kansas score 21 unanswered points, and the Chiefs are now 13/2 to win the Super Bowl for a second year running.
During free agency, Bashaud Breeland, Taco Charlton, Antonio Hamilton, Chad Henne, Chris Jones, Matt Moore, Demarcus Robinson and Damien Williams also signed with the Chiefs, while Clyde Edwards-Helaire was Kansas’ first-round draft pick.
The Chiefs tied Mahomes to a 10-year contract extension in July, and the future looks very bright for the Chiefs as they try to dominate in the NFL once again.
Time for Denver to find their Feet
It’s fair to say that the Denver Broncos have struggled in recent years with problems both on and off the field.
Last season, Vic Fangio became the Broncos’ third different head coach since 2014, while they have not made the playoffs in the last four seasons. Denver have struggled on offence, having only scored 30 points or more on one occasion in 2019.
In a bid to improve his team’s fortunes, Fangio signed two wide receivers during the first two rounds of the draft. Jerry Jeudy and K.J. Hamler both agreed terms with the Broncos, while A.J. Bouye, Jurrell Casey, Graham Glasgow, Melvin Gordon, Shelby Harris, Sam Martin and Nick Vannett joined in free agency.
With so many new recruits on offence, Denver will be looking to end the season in the playoffs, while they are 10/1 to win the AFC West.
Pressure on Gruden in 2020
Raiders coach Jon Gruden returned in 2018, but he has struggled to get his team firing since then.
They finished the 2019 campaign with a 7-9 record, meaning they missed out on the playoffs for the 16th time in the last 17 years.
Oakland will now be known as the Las Vegas Raiders from this season onwards, and they snapped up Henry Ruggs and Damon Arnette in the first round of this year’s draft.
Marcus Mariota signed a two-year deal in free agency, while linebackers Cory Littleton and Nick Kwiatkoski also put pen to paper.
The Raiders are the outsiders to win the AFC West, with Gruden’s men 12/1 to beat their nearest rivals.
All Eyes on Herbert
After Philip Rivers decided to leave the Los Angeles Chargers, the Indianapolis Colts handed him a one-year contract.
Oregon’s Justin Herbert was selected with the sixth pick of the first round, while they also signed LB Kenneth Murray.
Bryan Bulaga, Austin Ekeler, Chris Harris, Hunter Henry, Linval Joseph and Trai Turner all signed during free agency as coach Anthony Lynn tries to fine tune his team.
After a 5-11 campaign, the Chargers have a point to prove in 2020, but with a rookie quarterback at the helm, their fans may need to be patient for the next 12 months.
The Chargers are second favourites for the AFC West at 8/1, but it looks like the division is the Chiefs’ to lose.
