Cheltenham Day 4 Betting Tips
It’s the final day of the 2021 Cheltenham Festival and you’ll be looking to either play up your winnings or on a recovery mission to end the Festival in profit, or at least level.
Here’s a look at the Day 4 Cheltenham races with betting tips suggestions…
1.30pm: Triumph Hurdle
Gordon Elliott’s Zanahiyr (9/4 with bet365*) has been faultless this season, registering impressive victories at both Ballinrobe and Fairyhouse and looks the ideal type for this contest.
Elliott’s stable has won this race on two previous occasions with Tiger Roll and Farclas and the son of Nathaniel is a very worth favourite.
The Cheveley Park-owned Quilixios is now four from four after the French import added to his tally by winning at the Dublin Festival. Odds of 12/1 soon disappeared and Quilixios is now a strong 2nd fav at 11/2 with Betfair in the betting.
Of the others, Alan King’s Tritonic was 33/1 for this race before his winning hurdling debut at Ascot and 12/1 still looked a nice price for him a few weeks ago. After his last win he is now 9/4 favourite!
2.10pm: County Hurdle
Cadzand (16/1 with bet365*) had his Kempton form franked at Musselburgh recently by Christopher Wood and he shaped like a decent stayer over Christmas. Should he win or figure well in the Betfair Hurdle then he is bound to have a few points trimmed from his price for this race.
The versatile mare Verdana Blue has a number of options open to her at The Festival but she could very well contest this race. Having finished second in the Ascot Stakes and third in the Ebor, Verdana Blue has made a positive start to this jumps season. A handicap like this looks well within her scope and her price varies from between 10/1 and 20/1 with the bookmakers.
Saldier (20/1 William Hill), Drop The Anchor (14/1 with bet365*) and Blue Lord (10/1 William Hill) all appeal if they take up their entries here.
2.50pm: Albert Bartlett Hurdle
Stattler (5/1 Betfair), Fakiera (7/1 William Hill) and Gentlemansgame finished second, third and fourth to Gaillard Du Mesnil at the Dublin Racing Festival and all look set to re-oppose one another in this.
Punters appear to be siding more with Gordon Elliott’s former horse Fakiera out of the three and he’s now a 7/1 shot in the betting from a pre-Dublin price of 33/1. The quality of that race was good and it’s understandable that punters think that something from that Leopardstown race will figure in the Albert Bartlett.
3.30pm: Cheltenham Gold Cup
A Plus Tard (5/2 with bet365*) showed stamina is no issue when he motored home late to run down Kemboy (14/1 William Hill) and Melon (40/1 with SpreadEx) in the Savills Chase at Leopardstown.
Kemboy has franked that form since at the Dublin Racing Festival, and Henry de Bromhead’s seven-year-old is on a seriously upward curve. He looks like the perfect candidate to be the brand new Gold Cup winner this season.
Al Boum Photo is bidding to emulate Arkle, Best Mate and Golden Miller by becoming only the fourth horse in the history of the Gold Cup to win it three times. His traditional warm up win at Tramore on the way to this feature looked pretty ordinary this season and he certainly looks worth taking on.
Those considering a massive outsider for a shock or a place may want to consider Battleoverdoyen at juicy odds of 66/1 at bet365*.
4.10pm: Foxhunter Chase
The JP McManus owned Staker Wallace is dual point-to-point winner as well as having one hunter chase win to his name now after a victory at Limerick. He was last seen finishing a close second to Billaway in the Naas Hunters Chase and around a track like Cheltenham he could easily overhaul the Mullins ante-post favourite up the hill.
There’s no doubting the Willie Mullins-trained Billaway looks the hunter to beat here, but 5/2 looks a little short and there’s better value in a runner like Shantou Express (12/1) for example. Last year’s third should go well under a professional rider which has added a whole new dynamic to the race this year.
4.50pm: Mares’ Chase
Elimay cemented herself as a leading contender for this race by taking the recent Opera Hat Mares Chase at Naas. The gutsy grey pounced late and will probably adopt the same tactics at Cheltenham.
Benie Des Dieux and Colreevy look like the chief dangers to the favourite. There’s not really a lot between the trio.
5.30pm: Martin Pipe Conditional Hurdle
The “Getting Out Stakes” has finally arrived after four days of competitive racing, but who should you back if you’re in a spot of bother?
Well Gordon Elliott would normally target this finale and his old horse Wide Receiver fits the profile of a horse that traditionally wins this contest. With a top conditional jockey due to be get the leg up, Wide Receiver should be on any shortlist.
