All the familiar big-name clubs will be on show, but there could definitely be one or two early casualties among them given how tough some of the groups look this season.
Man City Favourites
Favourites in the outright betting for Champions League 2022-23 going into the group stage are Manchester City at 5/2 with Betfair.
With the addition of the prolific Erling Haaland, there is obvious appeal in backing City given the quality at Pep Guardiola’s disposal. However, those odds are not terribly generous, particularly as Group G features some awkward opposition in Sevilla, Borussia Dortmund and FC Copenhagen.

Liverpool can be backed at odds of 11/2 with BetFred, but there have been some early season concerns with the Reds as to the need to reinvigorate the midfield and whether they can adequately replace Sadio Mane up front. In addition, they face a tough group alongside Ajax, Napoli and Rangers, which isn’t without a few potential banana skins.

Paris Saint-Germain are available at 11/2 with 888sport and might be a better option to back.
This summer has seen a more pragmatic approach from PSG in the transfer market under new coach Christophe Galtier, with greater quality and depth added in defence and midfield.
They are in Group H alongside Juventus, Benfica and Maccabi Haifa, which will present a few challenges, but which they should come through without too many problems.

Other Champions League Contenders
Bayern Munich are 13/2 with BoyleSports and are definite contenders. However, they have lost Robert Lewandowski and being placed in a group alongside the Pole’s new employer, Barcelona, and Inter Milan could present a problem or two.
Defending champions Real Madrid are on offer at odds of 9/1 with Betway. Write them off at your peril, but it’s difficult to believe that they can continue to defy the odds when outplayed for another season.
Elsewhere, Tottenham Hotspur are 16/1 with William Hill, Chelsea are available at 18/1 with SpreadEx and a relatively new-look Barcelona, despite all their financial issues, will have plenty of backers at 20/1 with BetFred.
