How did the Hoops cope with the Lennon resignation?
Neil Lennon achieved five championships and just as many cup victories in a total of six years with Celtic Glasgow. However, his second era with the Bhoys came to an inglorious end during the week. The ex-professional resigned after his team’s recent defeat to Ross County, but did not only cause sad faces among players and fans.
It is obvious that the 49-year-old has squandered a lot of credit with his heart’s club this season. An 18-point gap to Rangers in the Scottish Premiership table, as well as disappointing performances at an international level, have been partly to blame. Under the guidance of interim coach John Kennedy, Celtic are now looking to get back to winning ways. The odds between Celtic Glasgow and Aberdeen on Saturday point to a home win.
However, this unquestionable role as favourites is not only due to the fact that new impulses may be released at the home side after Lennon’s resignation, but also to the form weakness of the guests from the port city in the north-east of Scotland.
Before the match between second and fourth in the table, Celtic Glasgow vs. Aberdeen, it should not be neglected that the Dons have failed to score in six of their last seven league games and only lost 1-0 in the catch-up match at Celtic Park ten days ago.
Celtic vs Aberdeen 27/02/2021 Prediction & Odds ✅
We believe that the favourites will break free and recommend the betting odds for a handicap win for the Hoops between Celtic Glasgow and Aberdeen, who have celebrated seven of their ten home victories this season with more than one goal difference.
For the Celtic Glasgow vs. Aberdeen bet on the home win, a 1.50 is offered at the top at the best bookmakers. We choose six units as the stake and also argue with the offensive lull of the visitors, who have failed to score in six of the last seven league games. Celtic Glasgow – Statistics & Current Form
The Scottish serial champions of recent years have had turbulent days behind them, but also ahead of them. It was only on Thursday that it became public that successful coach Neil Lennon was stepping down from his post. Because this step came rather unexpectedly for those responsible, reports about a potential successor are still limited at the moment. The name Roberto Martinez has been mentioned in the media from time to time, although the Spaniard is currently coaching the Belgian national team very successfully.
Next Saturday, interim coach John Kennedy will coach the team at home against Aberdeen Football Club. It will be interesting to see how the team reacts to the surprising development during the week. Considering the very disappointing season so far, we wouldn’t even rule out that the resignation (in the short term) might even have a positive effect on the performance of the current second-placed team.
Celtic a power at home
Statistically, it is still a good idea to bet on Celtic between Celtic Glasgow and Aberdeen. Despite the aforementioned 18-point gap to Glasgow Rangers, the record at home is absolutely impressive. Ten of the 15 home games have been won so far. The Green-Whites have conceded only ten goals and have won seven of the ten with at least a two-goal difference.
The Bhoys also have 24 wins from their last 27 home games against their opponents and have won 35 of 38 Premiership matches at Celtic Park in recent years. Apart from last weekend’s 1-0 defeat to Ross County, the Hoops, who are very well-stocked by Scottish league standards, have also won five of their last six games at national level.
With the exception of the injured Forrest and Jullien, ex-professional and former Lennon assistant John Kennedy, 37, has a full complement of players to choose from. Can the former Scotland international, who is working on an interim basis, possibly even recommend himself for higher tasks? A commanding home win would do no harm at any rate.
Expected line-up of Celtic Glasgow:
Bain; Kenny, Welsh, Ajer, Taylor; Brown; Rogic, Turnbull; McGregor; Christie, Edouard
Aberdeen – Statistics & current form
These days and weeks, Aberdeen FC are also familiar with coaching discussions. Derek McInnes has come under increasing criticism recently. The first fans have already demanded that the coach, who has been with the Red and Whites since 2013, be replaced. The frustration of their own supporters is understandable, as they did not have much reason to cheer in the most recent games.
Between the end of January and mid-February, the Dons not only failed to win six matches in a row, but also failed to score a goal of their own. Three matches involving AFC ended in goalless draws, while the other three were lost. It was only last weekend that the drought ended with a flattering 1-0 win at home to Kilmarnock. But because last year’s fourth-placed team still occupies fourth place, there is obviously no reason for those in charge not to hold on to the coaching personnel.
Aberdeen’s offensive only a lukewarm breeze
For the upcoming match between Celtic Glasgow and Aberdeen, the odds on the guest are nevertheless to be treated rather virgin. In addition to the ongoing offensive lull (five goals in the last eleven Premiership games), the yield in opposing stadiums does not necessarily inspire confidence. McInnes’ side have only scored ten goals away from home all season and have failed to win ten of their last 14 matches away from home. Three of the four defeats came by more than one goal difference.
The bottom line is that we are sceptical that the Dons will score away from home for the first time since mid-January or even win a game away from home for the first time since 20 December. Coach McInnes will have to do without Hornby, Hedges and Leigh due to injury. Johnny Hayes, who is struggling with a hamstring problem, is also doubtful.
Aberdeen’s likely line-up:
Lewis; Hoban, Taylor, Considine; McLennan, McCrorie, Ferguson, Campbell, McGinn; Kamberi, Hendry.
Prediction & Scotland Celtic Glasgow – Aberdeen Scotland Tip
All eyes will be on John Kennedy on Saturday afternoon. The current assistant coach is in charge with immediate effect after his boss Neil Lennon announced his resignation on Thursday. Admittedly, the interim coach can’t achieve much this season, with Celtic already out of the cup and Europa League, and second place in the domestic league also cemented.
Nevertheless, the spoilt fans of the Bhoys expect an improvement of their team after the change in the coaching position. This is supported by the fact that the Green-Whites are playing at home and against a favourite opponent. They have won 35 of their last 38 league home games at home. Against the Dons, they have won 24 of the last 27 matches in the competition.
