Saturday is the concluding instalment of the Cambridgeshire Meeting at Newmarket and it of course features the famous old handicap that bears its name as the highlight.
There are a brace of Group 1 juvenile contests on the supporting card, with racing at Newmarket on Saturday afternoon from 1.15pm-5.24pm.

Our tipster has a race-by-race look at today’s Newmarket card.
1.15 – Blandford Bloodstock Maiden Fillies’ Stakes Division 1 (7f)
The William Haggas-trained Oheka made a pleasing start to her career in finishing third at this venue last month on debut, and she’ll have leading claims under Oisin Murphy with improvement anticipated now. That race was on the July Course and the Clive Cox-trained STELLAR QUEEN was just in front of today’s market leader after racing closer to the pace. Hollie Doyle’s mount should remain closely matched with her re-opposing adversary.
Selection: Stellar Queen @ 9/2
1.50 – Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes (Group 2, 1m)
Once-raced July Course winner Coroebus is clearly laced with potential for Godolphin and Charlie Appleby and should improve appreciably from that debut score 43 days ago but the form is already in the book for MASEKELA. Andrew Balding’s colt was second to Native Trail (Group 1 winner since) here in the Superlative Stakes in July and then edged out Bayside Boy (Group 2 winner since) at Newbury last time. He goes up to the mile with likely more to come and a standout claim on form as he stands.
Selection: Masekela @ 15/8
2.25 – Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes (Fillies’ Group 1, 6f)
This is a cracking renewal with Lowther one-two Zain Claudette and Sandrine key & well matched players, and Illustrating joining Flotus interesting as contenders too, but preference is for SACRED BRIDGE. Ger Lyons’ Juddmonte-owned Bated Breath filly created quite an impression in last month’s Group 3 Round Tower win at the Curragh, coming right away from some good fillies to make it 4-4 and she has definite Group 1 potential on that evidence.
Selection: Sacred Bridge @ 2/1
3.00 – Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes (Group 1, 6f)
Perfect Power sets the standard after reversing his unlucky Glorious Goodwood defeat when holding Asymmetric and Armor in the Prix Morny last month. Along Dr Zempf, Go Bears Go and Castle Star they help make this a strong line-up and maybe there’s some each-way value in HMS ENDEAVOUR for Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore. The well-bred War Front colt is jumping up in class but he has the pedigree to perform in this environment for a trainer with six Middle Park wins since 2000.
Selection: HMS Endeavour @ 16/1
3.40 – Cambridgeshire Handicap (Heritage Handicap, 1m1f)
A real puzzle, as it always is, Chichester has been all the rage for Cambridgeshire glory this week and is very well handicapped on the back of last week’s Ayr win. John & Thady Gosden saddle a pair of solid contenders in Uncle Bryn and Magical Morning, with Frankie Dettori seemingly preferring the latter.
Two against the field are IRISH ADMIRAL and Long Tradition. The latter, trained by Saeed bin Suroor, is entirely unexposed and could have something to offer, but William Haggas’ 4YO has threatened better performances than he’s delivered at times this season. After a better effort last month at York, he grabbed a winning opportunity at Redcar and perhaps a strongly-contested nine-furlongs across this track will be just what he wants, given how he moved on the Knavesmire earlier in the season over a longer trip before just failing to get home.
Selection: Irish Admiral @ 20/1
4.15 – Blandford Bloodstock Maiden Fillies’ Stakes Division 2 (7f)
Accepting that newcomers Al Husn and Parameter have some potential, THANKS MONICA still looks the solid call in this maiden. Ralph Beckett’s Teofilo filly was fourth in a hot maiden over this trip on the July Course here 50 days ago – with the second, third and sixth all next-time-out winners and the first just denied in Listed company since. Frankie Dettori takes over in the saddle now and his filly appeals plenty.
Selection: Thanks Monica @ 5/4
4.50 – British Stallion Studs EBF ‘Jersey Lily’ Fillies’ Nursery (7f)
Dubai Jewel (fifth) and PERFECT NEWS (eighth) came up shy in the Group 3 Dick Poole Fillies’ Stakes at Salisbury earlier in the month and both are now stepped up to 7f/eased in grade for this nursery. William Haggas’ previous Carlisle maiden winner now moves into nurseries and while a mark of 93 demands some improvement, this additional yardage may well see that forthcoming.
Selection: Perfect News @ 10/1
5.24 – Sue Human Celebration Handicap (7f)
Despite top-weight, JUMBY is the standout contender for Eve Johnston-Houghton. The New Bay colt won over 6f here in May and wasn’t beaten far last month having contested a Royal Ascot Group 1 and a deep handicap on the July Course in between times. She was a gutsy winner of a Salisbury Conditions race over 6f since and her stamina for this trip is assured.
Selection: Jumby @ 15/8
