RB Leipzig vs SC Freiburg
The Red Bulls may be dethroned at the top of the Bundesliga standings as of the moment, but they have a chance to pick themselves back up again when they host SC Freiburg on Saturday.
Perennial contenders Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund occupy the top two spots with 15 points apiece, while RB Leipzig are still in a good spot with 13 points.
After a torrid start to their 2020/21 campaign, RB Leipzig were stopped in their tracks when they suffered their first defeat of the season at the hands of Borussia Monchengladbach.
Prior to that, Julian Nagelsmann’s men also suffered a tough defeat in the Champions League against Manchester United, in a match that exposed their limitations.
Meanwhile, SC Freiburg will look to salvage some pride after a miserable start to their campaign.
Christian Streich’s men won in their first match of the season versus VfB Stuttgart, but after that they proceeded to lose or draw in their next five.
The SBOTOP betting tips heavily point to a victory for RB Leipzig especially since they’ll get to play in their home pitch. But can SC Freiburg defy the odds and score an upset against the weary Red Bulls?
Read on below for our latest Bundesliga 2020 updates.
Talking Points
RB Leipzig feeling the pressure
Before they’ll face SC Freiburg on Saturday, Julian Nagelsmann’s side will figure in last season’s semifinals rematch against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
The Red Bulls were once pegged as one of the two squads who will advance from the group stage alongside the French giants, but so far things haven’t been going according to plan.
After two matchdays, Manchester United have found themselves on top of Group H, while RB Leipzig and PSG are level with each having one win and one loss.
RB Leipzig are running poor in form as their limitations were finally exposed, particularly in the attacking department.
While they have been successful in doing it by committee so far, the departure of Timo Werner is becoming apparent by the day.
My fellow writer mentioned that while Yussuf Poulsen may offer a great work rate and pace, he isn’t the ideal candidate to replace the standout striker.
At the same time, their defencive depth took a hit when some of their key players have been dealing with fitness and injury concerns.
Julian Nagelsmann is hopeful that Nordi Mukiele, Tyler Adams, and Marcel Halstenberg will all have a clean bill of health in order to somehow fill in the void for Lukas Klostermann, who is sidelined indefinitely due to a knee injury.
The Red Bulls are hopeful that they can find some home comfort against their lowly visitors.
SC Freiburg need to flip the switch defencively
For SC Freiburg to have a chance to survive this season, Christian Streich would need to constantly reiterate defence to a large degree for his team.
So far it has been problematic for SC Freiburg as they only 13th in the table this season. While their goal total at this point has been okay (8), it’s their production on the other end that needs some work.
They’ve already given up 13 goals so far, and most of them came from their bad losses.
Borussia Dortmund demolished them with a 4-0 scoreline last month, and then VfB Stuttgart avenged their earlier loss by producing a comprehensive 3-0 victory.
Freiburg also conceded four goals against Bayer Leverkusen in the last time out.
History
RB Leipzig and SC Freiburg have faced off in just 10 matches prior to Saturday.
In their short history together, both are level with four wins each while there have also been two draws.
SC Freiburg got a couple of positive results in their last two matches against RB Leipzig (W1, D1), and they are hopeful that they can repeat the same trend this weekend.
Leipzig’s last win over Freiburg dates back to April 2019, but their prior win to that happened over three years ago.
Betting Tip
RB Leipzig vs SC Freiburg | RB Leipzig Asian Handicap -1.25 @ 1.73 | |
November 07, 22:30 (GMT+8) |
Despite handling a tough balancing act between their domestic and European commitments, RB Leipzig are heavily backed by the Bundesliga 2020 odds to win.
They are priced at 1.32, while SC Freiburg are at 9.25 to win and a draw is at 4.90 in the 1×2 market.
Goals will come at a premium in this fixture and it is likely that the Red Bulls are the main contributors, so Under 2.50 @ 1.24 looks to be a plausible bet alongside Total Goal 2-3 @ 1.97.
Even with their struggles recently, I see the Red Bulls winning in this one with no trouble at all. SC Freiburg’s play on both ends of the pitch has been problematic, and that might just cure the ills for Julian Nagelsmann’s side.
