Starting with a double at Kelso on Saturday – both Mister Whitaker and Sultans Pride were very pleasing, and Minella Drama was a bit unlucky but still ran a very good race. Minella Trump won nicely at Sandown on Sunday too.
Richmond Lake and Barrichello both won well on Wednesday. Goobinator was quite unlucky but he’s certainly brave!
We are lucky to have a lot of nice horses at Cholmondeley (Donald McCain’s yard), and hopeful of a decent weekend although it’s always tricky to ride a winner at Cheltenham!
I’m at Wetherby tomorrow where I have five rides…
Saturday 13th November – Wetherby:
12.15pm – Ritson
I don’t know Ritson very well. He’s run OK in a couple of bumpers and I’m led to believe the trainer holds him in decent regard. Ben Case and Olly Murphy’s runners look smart, so I’d be more hopeful than confident.
1.25pm – One Night In Milan
He’s a half-brother to none other than Native River. I’ve won a couple of races on him and like to think he has an each-way chance. He’s been running OK on the flat this year, but so has the favourite so we’ll have to hope all goes in our favour tomorrow.
2pm- Return Ticket
He won at this track over 2miles two starts ago and whipped around at the start the day I had a five-timer so his chance had gone that day, but he ran okay to finish third. He wants fast ground so wouldn’t want any more rain but he’s been running well and is a horse with an decent level of ability so I’m hopeful he’ll run well.
2.35pm – Sauce Of Life
This is a lovely horse and probably one of my best rides of the day. It’s an interesting sort of race with some nice types in it, but Sauce Of Life is a nice horse who won both of his bumpers and has been ready to run for a while. I’d be hoping he’ll go very well.
3.10pm – First Impression
He’s only had four starts over hurdles and I won on him the last time I rode him at Wetherby. He ran OK in a Juvenile handicap hurdle at Ascot and has been running on the flat most recently, finishing 2nd to an improver for Godolphin last time out so you’d think there was a bit more mileage in his handicap mark. I’m confident of him running well.
