In the early hours of Sunday morning, Las Vegas is again the setting for the conclusion of a great heavyweight boxing trilogy.
Almost 26 years since Riddick “Big Daddy” Bowe avenged the only defeat of his career to beat “The Real Deal” Evander Holyfield for the second time, “The Gypsy King” Tyson Fury will be looking to emulate Bowe and end his trilogy against Deontay Wilder with a second victory to consolidate his status as the best heavyweight on the planet.
Since Fury followed up their 2018 draw by taking The Bronze Bomber’s WBC title in their February 2020 rematch, both fighters have been inactive – by far the longest period out of the ring in Wilder’s career.
With both fighters weighing in the heaviest they have ever been, I expect this fight to go much the same way as the last, with Fury looking to outwork his opponent and take advantage of his superior size and speed. Wilder didn’t have an answer last time and having bulked up again looks to be relying on his one punch power to get the job done. Fury should be able to use his superior ring skills to overwhelm the American in the later stages and retain his belt.

Efe Ajagba v Frank Sanchez
Elsewhere on the undercard look out for fireworks as Efe Ajagba and Frank Sanchez put their unbeaten records on the line.
A step up in class for both and a case could be made for either to prevail. However with 25 knock outs between them in 33 bouts, a stoppage is expected so the total round market appeals

Anthony Fowler v Liam Smith
Closer to home, two top UK fighters square off in “The Battle of Liverpool” as former world title holder Liam Smith faces fellow Liverpudlian Anthony Fowler in what is set to be an intriguing encounter.
Both boxers will fancy their chances in this one, with Smith likely to try and do his best work on the inside while Fowler will look to stay behind his jab and keep Smith at bay.
Smith undoubtedly has the better experience against tougher fighters, however there is a feeling that his career is on a downward trajectory having lost his last fight, albeit to a top 10 fighter in the division in Magomed Kurbanov.
Fowler has won his last six, four of which were inside the distance and I fancy him as the younger fighter to make his superior reach advantage count and outlast Smith in a points victory.
