Merry Christmas from all the team at MFT! We hope you had a brilliant day yesterday and are raring to go for a busy Boxing Day of football and racing.
The Premier League returns for the festive fixtures with seven games from the top flight today.
Brentford and Tottenham kick things off at 12.30 and Spurs gaffer, Antonio Conte, has suggested he’ll rest players who were with their international squads in Qatar. Definitely out are finalists Hugo Lloris and Cristian Romero. They’re joined by the injured Richarlison and Moura as well as Bentacur who is suspended so team news could be crucial for the lunchtime kick-off.
Bet365 rate the visitors favourites at 21/20 with the Bees at 12/5. Thomas Frank‘s side have lost just once at home this season and in Ivan Toney have one the Premier League’s top marksmen. The striker plays depsite being charged by the FA over alleged breaches of betting rules and is 7/4 to add to his tally of 10 goals this season.
It could be a tale of two managers at Goodison Park. Under-pressure Frank Lampard has work to do to turn things around for Everton, while new boss Julen Lopetegui must get to work to lift Wolves off the bottom and stave off relegation.
The Spaniard has targeted several new arrivals when the transfer window opens but he must work with what he has at present and the new-manager-bounce could come in to play this afternoon on Merseyside. Scoring goals have been a major problem for Wolves this season, just 8 in 15, but if they can get their noses in front they could nick a point or three at 2/1.
The World Cup came at the wrong time for Newcastle who were flying prior to the break. Eddie Howe will be hoping his Magpies can pick up where they left off at Leciester City this afternoon. But the Foxes look a different proposition now compared to earlier in the season after a string of wins propelled them out of the relegation zone.
Significantly though, they’ll be without the influential James Madison. The England midfielder makes Brendan Rodgers team tick and his absence could tip things in Newcastle’s favour at 6/5.
Crystal Palace‘s best work is usually done at home and they’ll be eyeing all three points against London rivals Fulham this afternoon. Just one goal separates the sides in the table so this should be a close encounter but it could be an entertaining one and the Eagles to score two or more appeals at evens.
In the Championship West Brom could be woth keeping an eye on at Bristol City. The Baggies wentdown 1-0 to a late, late penalty at Coventry City to end a run of five wins in a row. The Robins have won just one in eight in all competitions and could be vulnerable if Carlos Corberan can pick his side up again at 13/10.
In the evening, both Arsenal and Liverpool are odds on to win against West Ham and Aston Villa respectively.
The Gunners can open up an eight point gap over Manchester City who don’t play until Wednesday and there’s little to suggest they won’t claim the three points against a Hammers side who are having a poor season.
Things will be a little trickier for Jurgen Klopp’s side at Villa Park. Villa boss Unai Emery is a shrewd operator and there’ll be plenty happy to get onside with his team at 15/4 but the Reds cannot afford to slip any further behind the pack at the top of the table.
They’ve a good record against Villa and are worth doubling up with Arsenal for an 8/5 Double.
Finally, we all know that amazing round of fixture from Boxing Day 1963 when 66 goals were score in 10 matches, we don’t need quite so many today, just two or more in each game, which pays over 4/1.
