At stake will be Povetkin’s WBC interim heavyweight title belt but, more importantly for Whyte, he will be looking to avenge his loss to the veteran Russian back in August and will know that his career as a leading heavyweight is effectively on the line here.
The original fight at the purpose-built Matchroom Fight Camp saw the 41 year-old Povetkin deliver an upset by beating Whyte by a 5th round TKO.
Whyte again goes into the rematch as the odds-on favourite, but is far from banker material against an opponent who has only lost twice as a professional. Povetkin’s first defeat was on points to Wladimir Klitschko in Moscow seven years ago and he was then stopped by Anthony Joshua in the 7th round at Wembley in 2018.
