Der Klassiker headlines another busy weekend of Bundesliga football, with Wolfsburg also tipped to shine, while Freiburg could hurt Leipzig’s title bid.
All Eyes on the Allianz for Der Klassiker
A contest football fans always look forward to. Still, it’s unlikely Borussia Dortmund are approaching their latest trip to Bayern Munich with much relish, despite having hit form in recent weeks.
BVB have won just three of their last 13 meetings in all competitions with the old enemy and you have to go back to April 2017 for the last time they won at Bayern’s Allianz Arena fortress.
The Bavarian giants have won eight of their 11 Bundesliga home games this season, drawing the other three, while scoring at a rate of 3.8 goals per game.
Bayern are unbeaten in 16 games across all competitions on home soil in this campaign and it is hard to envisage Dortmund being the first side to lower the home flag at odds of 4/1, especially as Hansi Flick’s side have won the last four meetings. A home victory is 8/13 and better looks to lie elsewhere, but it would be foolish to write off Dortmund’s chances completely.
They have won four of their last five matches, drawing the other, with in-form duo Erling Braut Haaland and Jadon Sancho leading the way.
Haaland has bagged five goals in those five matches to take his tally to 27 in all competitions this season, while Sancho has moved on to 12 having scored in four of Dortmund’s last five. This contest could come down to a shootout between the Bundesliga’s hotshots with Robert Lewandowski also in fantastic form for Bayern.
The Poland star has reached 34 goals for the season, including 28 in 21 league games. He is 21/10 to open the scoring at the Allianz with Haaland next best at 4/1. Sancho, though, looks great value at 10/1 as he has also been on penalty duty recently for BVB.
With such a wealth of talent on display, it promises to be a cracking clash and backing a home win in a match featuring four goals or more also looks the way to go.
These two have already met twice this season with Bayern running out 3-2 victors each time and a similar outcome can be expected.
Wolves Look Hungry for More
Their recent form has seen Wolfsburg rise to third in the Bundesliga standings and they can maintain the pressure on the top two at Hoffenheim.
Die Wolfe have built up a head of steam at the right time and much of that is down to their solid defence.
Oliver Glasner’s men have won seven of their last eight matches, drawing the other, and have kept clean sheets in all of those fixtures.
They are five points adrift of second-placed RB Leipzig but can maintain their charge with a victory over a Hoffenheim side who have won just one of their last seven matches in all competitions.
Wolfsburg are 7/5 to come out on top and that looks the bet against a Hoffenheim side who are 19/10 to get back on track.
Freiburg Could Sizzle Against the Red Bulls
RB Leipzig remain in the race for Bundesliga glory but they could slip up at Freiburg.
They haven’t won at this venue since November 2016 and may have one eye on next week’s Champions League last 16 second leg against Liverpool.
The Red Bulls are 2-0 down in that tie but may fancy their chances of turning it around.
Freiburg have lost just three of their 12 home Bundesliga games this season and arrive at this match in decent shape having lost just three of their last ten league fixtures.
Leipzig aren’t easily dismissed but the Freiburg or draw double chance at 6/5 looks a decent bet.
