Saturdays Bet of the Day see’s me take my first trip to Asia’s top league early in the morning followed by a more familiar trip to Belgium.
Yokohama F Marinos vs Kashiwa Reysol

Finally making a return back to Japan as the Marinos host Kashiwa Reysol. The Marinos currently sit in fourth however are only one point behind Sagan Tosu with two games in hand and eight points behind Nagoya Grampus but have four games in hand. Kashiwa Reysol on the other hand are positioned in 15th and only four points above the relegation zone.
Before their 5-3 defeat away to Kashima Antlers last time out, the Marinos had won four in a row scoring 13 goals and conceding just the once. It’s their home form that’s been strong as they’re unbeaten in all seven games, winning 5 times and scoring 16 goals conceding just the 4.
Kashiwa Reysol up to now have had a disappointing season losing 9 of their 14 J League fixtures. They come into this losing their last 3 games without scoring. Their away record is poor also losing 6 out of 8. The only two sides they took points off of on their travels are below Reysol in the league (17th placed Oita Trinita & 20th placed Yokohama).
Mechelen vs Gent

Crucial game in Belgium here as Mechelen host Gent. Both these sides sit level on 35 points with Mechelen top due to a better goal difference. Gent know they need to win to leapfrog Mechelen and qualify for the Europa League play offs while Mechelen only need to avoid defeat.
Mechelen come into this in great form unbeaten in their last 7. That’s largely down to their goal scoring form in those games scoring 22 goals. Mechelen have scored in 15 of their 19 home games 37 goals, only three sides have scored more at home. They do struggle to keep clean sheets though, conceding in all 7 of these games they are unbeaten in. In fact they’ve actually conceded in their last 13 games. At home they’ve only kept 4 clean sheets in 19 conceding 34 goals.
Gent come into this losing only 2 of their last nine which coincidently were two 2-1 defeats away to Standard Liege. They’ve scored in all of their last nine scoring 24 goals. Away from home Gent have scored in 16 out of 19 scoring 31 times (the joint 3rd most in the league). Gent have only kept 6 clean sheets on the road this season conceding 23 goals.
Bet of the Day
Starting off early in Japan as the Marinos should keep up their strong form at home and defeat a struggling Kashiwa Reysol who are poor travellers. Then in Belgium I’m an expecting an open and entertaining game as both sides fight to qualify for the Europa League qualifiers.
