After two surprise defeats in succession, Bayern Munich will be determined to show they mean business in the Bundesliga when they take on high-flying Freiburg on Sunday.
Hansi Flick’s side have lost their last two games in all competitions, but they still have a two-point advantage at the top of the Bundesliga table.
After last weekend’s league defeat to Borussia Monchengladbach, Bayern were beaten by Bundesliga 2 outft Holstein Kiel in the DFB Pokal, albeit on penalties.
They usually respond to adversity and will need to do that when they take on Freiburg.
Before their back-to-back defeats, Bayern had enjoyed a 20-match unbeaten run in all competitions, and they will be desperate to get back to winning ways against Freiburg.
Luckily for Flick’s men, they will have home advantage, and that is massive for the Bavarians.
They have not lost on home soil since November 2019, but that is not to say Freiburg cannot pose them problems.
While Freiburg were eliminated from the DFB-Pokal last month, they are unbeaten in seven in the league. Christain Streich’s side have won five in a row in the top flight, scoring 16 in that time.
They have scored on their last two visits to the Allianz Arena, but Bayern should still win and a home victory with teams to score is priced at 1/1
.
Leverkusen Hoping to Keep Union Berlin at Bay
Friday’s meeting between Union Berlin and Bayer Leverkusen could steal the headlines this weekend.
Both teams are chasing European football, with Leverkusen currently third and on track for the Champions League.
Union Berlin sit four points and two places behind them, but their home form has been sketchy of late.
They have won just one of their last five on home soil, while Leverkusen have won four of their last five on their travels. Leverkusen should have too much experience for their rivals and an away win at 5/4
looks good value.
Leipzig Can Return to Winning Ways
Julian Nagelsmann’s squad were humbled last weekend by a spirited Borussia Dortmund, and they fell to a 3-1 defeat at home.
That defeat meant they couldn’t cut the gap between themselves and Bayern Munich, but they will be hoping Freiburg can do them a favour this weekend.
Leipzig have only lost one of their last 10 in all competitions and last week’s defeat should be a minor bump in the road for them.
Nagelsmann’s squad had kept five clean sheets in succession before their defeat to Dortmund, and they will fancy their chances of getting their title bid back on track against this week’s opponents, Wolfsburg.
Wolfsburg have shown recent defensive frailties as well, conceding four goals in their last two games, and backing Leipzig – who have scored 12 goals in their last five away assignments – and for the match to contain over 2.5 goals looks tempting at odds of 2/1
.
