Dortmund Can Add to Bayer Woes
The opening night of the midweek schedule sees third host fourth as Bayer Leverkusen take on Borussia Dortmund with just goal difference separating them.
For those who love goals, the recent stats from this fixture are striking. Dortmund have scored at least three times in the last five meetings between the two, while there has also been over 2.5 in BVB’s last three matches on the road in the Bundesliga.
Hosts Leverkusen have seen both teams to score bets land in three of their last four league matches, the odd one out being Friday’s 1-0 defeat at Union Berlin.
That was their third defeat in a winless run of four and they take on a Dortmund side who may have drawn 1-1 with Mainz on Saturday, but feel like they are finding their feet again having previously won 3-1 at RB Leipzig.
Erling Haaland scored twice in that win over Leipzig and is 3/1 to score two or more on Tuesday.
Despite falling short to Mainz, Der BVB’s firepower means they are unlikely to struggle again, even at a ground where they have won on just one of their last four visits.
An away win is 11/10 but that result with both teams to score is 11/5, while over 3.5 goals is 7/5.
Home Comforts Can Work for Schalke
Onto Wednesday and surely bottom side Schalke can take the points against fellow strugglers Cologne.
Eyebrows were raised when Die Konigsblauen appointed Christian Gross as their fourth manager of the season in December but so far in his short reign he has acheieved what none of his predecessors had: win a game.
That 4-0 success over Hoffenheim was the club’s first in almost a year and while they were the 3-1 losers at Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday, there were still positives to take.
Cologne have found themselves slipping down the table, winning one of their last six and the real worry is that they have scored only once in that time and punters can get 20/21 for a ‘No’ on both teams to score.
Die Geissbocke are unbeaten in their last five trips to the Veltins-Arena but their confidence is flagging and 31/20 for Schalke to grab only a second win in 33 matches looks tempting.
One reason to back that is the form of Matthew Hoppe who has scored four of Schalke’s last five goals. The American teenager could be the difference in what is unlikely to be classic.
East Meets East at the Red Bull Arena
The Bavarian derby between Augsburg and Bayern Munich will catch some punters’ eyes but the real fireworks could be in Saxony where RB Leipzig take on Union Berlin.
An East German derby, albeit RB are a relatively new entity compared to Union who enjoyed some success in the GDR, although they did suffer a 5-1 defeat to FC Lokomotive Leipzig in the 1986 cup final.
Fast-forward to Wednesday and Julian Nagelsmann’s men are four points behind leaders Bayern after failing to take top spot over the last two weekends losing to Dortmund and drawing 2-2 at Wolfsburg on Saturday.
Leipzig won their first six home games of the season and will hope to get back on track against a Union team unbeaten in six and sitting fifth in the Bundesliga.
The derby against Hertha is their sole away defeat this season but that tally could be doubled here with the hosts 10/21 to win.
Union are the Bundesliga’s joint-second top scorers with 32 and could be good for a goal so more ambitious punters may elect to take up the 49/20 for a home win and over 3.5 goals in the game.
