Atletico Madrid can further boost their La Liga title hopes on Saturday when they make the short trip to cross-city rivals Getafe.
A poor start to the term from Barcelona and Real Madrid allowed Atleti to open up a gap at the top of the standings and they are the 8/15
favourites to win the league.
They wobbled slightly last month when they took on Levante twice in the space of three days, drawing on the road and losing at home.
But they have recovered over recent weeks, earning victories over Villarreal and Athletic Bilbao, while they drew against Real Madrid.
Diego Simeone’s men start the weekend sitting six points clear of second-placed Barcelona at the summit, while Real are two points further back.
Atleti to Hold Misfiring Getafe at Bay
Saturday’s trip to Getafe, which is due to take place at 20:00, offers a perfect opportunity to add another win to their tally.
Getafe are just five points clear of the drop zone and have tasted victory just once in their last eight outings, losing six during that sequence.
It’s no surprise to see Atleti go off as favourites to win at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez and there are sure to be plenty of takers at 20/21
.
However, an Atleti win to nil, available at 31/20
, looks tempting for that extra bit of value when taking into account Getafe’s struggles in front of goal.
Saturday’s hosts have scored just 21 times in 26 engagements, the second-lowest tally in the division, while it’s also worth noting that Atletico boast the strongest defence with only 18 conceded.
Yellow Submarine to Sink Eibar
Villarreal’s hopes of qualifying for Europe have taken a hit over recent weeks but a trip to Eibar could get them back on track.
The Yellow Submarine have failed to win in eight, drawing five and losing three, but they have performed positively in the Europa League and look set for a place in the quarter-finals after earning a last-16 first-leg 2-0 win at Dynamo Kyiv on Thursday.
They can take some confidence from their exploits on the road with just one loss in their last five away from home in the league.
Eibar are embroiled in a relegation battle, sitting 18th and two points from safety, and their form doesn’t make for pleasant reading after enduring a run of 10 matches without victory.
The Basque outfit have only won once at home this term, earning just nine points at the Estadio Municipal de Ipurua.
An outright Villarreal win, which can be backed at 6/4
, looks the way to go in this one.
Betis Eyeing Derby Delight
The Seville derby rounds off Sunday’s action in La Liga when Sevilla play host to Real Betis at 20:00.
There is little to pick between the two rivals with Sevilla sitting fourth, just six points clear of Betis in sixth.
Sevilla are winless in four across all competitions, suffering back-to-back defeats in the league, while Betis appear to be in the ascendancy as they ride a four-match winning streak.
It’s worth considering that Betis haven’t enjoyed much success in the clash over recent years, failing to win since 2018, although they did snap a three-game losing run when earning a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture in January.
Betis have also collected four points from away fixtures at European rivals Villarreal and Real Sociedad since the turn of the year and they look good to take something from Sunday’s clash.
Los Verdiblancos are available at 5/6
in the double chance market.
