This weekend I head over to Ascot for 3 rides on Saturday, then the MansionBet sponsored meeting at Exeter on Sunday for 1 ride.
My first ride on Saturday is Pats Fancy who is trained by Rebecca Curtis. He ran ok in his first run of the season at Chepstow, but he’ll need to improve a lot here, so I only give him a small chance.
Song For Someone is next up for me and we won the Ascot Hurdle last year. It’s going to be a lot tougher this time around as it’s a much better field. His form tailed off after this race last year, but he has been in good form at home. We’re hopeful of a big run and it would be great to win this race again.
My final ride on Saturday is on Sully D’Oc AA, who had his big day last season when he won at the Punchestown Festival. I’m not sure we have much in hand at all, but he is a nice horse and we will see how we get on.
Exeter on Sunday
My only ride on Sunday is Swincombe Fleat, who is a lovely mare. She won one of her bumpers and she is one we think has a big future. The other horses in the race have more experience than us, which might tell when we get to the business end of the race.
It’s been a great week down at Olly Murphy’s schooling some nice horses, but there was one moment that really stood out, which nearly made me late to Market Rasen on Thursday. I heard ITV Racing’s Luke Harvey was coming down to Olly’s to school one. I couldn’t miss this opportunity to watch the former Welsh Grand National winning jockey try and jump a fence. I stood by the schooling fences and got my phone out to record it, and I’m glad I did, it was very funny to watch. I can now see why he retired.
