I’ve had a good week this week as I managed to get a few wins under my belt, and I’m hoping to carry on that form into the weekend at Warwick. I’ve got a great chance of doing so as all my rides are very competitive and each of them could quite easily go either way.
I’m riding in four races at Warwick, starting with Doctor Ken in the 1:00. I have to say he was disappointing at Cheltenham last month where he didn’t run up to form, but if he runs better than that he should be ok. He won nicely at Ascot in his previous run in November, so he’s shown that he’s more than capable and he’s a horse we really like. The track at Warwick should suit him, especially in a small field, so we’ll see how we get on but I am confident of getting a good result.

I’m probably most confident about my second ride, Marie’s Rock, in the 1:35. She was unlucky on her last run where she was well fancied but ended up getting really badly interfered with and hardly got a run in. It was a shame, but these things happen in jump racing.
Looking forward to tomorrow and she shouldn’t be far away, she’s very versatile and has been a very good mare that I’ve enjoyed working with. Of course, Indefatigable will be the one to beat in a small but select field, but I’m sure we can give her a good run for her money.
Confident of a Good Result
On to the 3:15 where I’m on Falco Blitz, and this is yet another ride that could go either way. He’s a nice horse who won nicely at Kempton despite jumping out to the left. Warwick is a left-handed track so that will hopefully suit him very well. As with all my races tomorrow the field is very competitive, but I’m quietly confident we can get a good result and pick up a good share of the prize money.
I finish off in the 4:25 on I am Rocco, and I have to say that I’ve never sat on him and will have to wait and see how this one goes. I’m expecting him to be a nice horse and I’m really looking forward to the ride, but I can’t say much more about it as I honestly don’t know.
Finally, with the Cheltenham Festival coming up in a month or so, I and other jockeys have been asked about our plans and preparations for it. At the moment it’s a bit early to start thinking about – we usually do our last schooling about a week or ten days beforehand depending on the trainer. Of course, I’m keeping myself sharp and am definitely looking forward to it, but all I can do in the meantime is focus on my rides between now and the big event.
