SCOTTISH football is back with a bang this weekend as the League Cup group stage gets underway.
There’s usually a few shocks with Premiership teams going in undercooked and St Mirren, St Johnstone and Hibs all failed to make it through their group last term.
The last thing you want on day one is a road trip to an SPFL outpost and there’s a few big clubs facing those kind of fixtures this afternoon.
Both the Saints are on the road against lower-league opposition while Motherwell, Livingston and Ross County also have long treks.
St Johnstone fans are upset at the lack of new signings this summer but having a settled side could help them in the group stage.
They begin at Stenhousemuir and I fancy them to be winning at half-time and full-time (6/5, BoyleSports).
St Mirren have a tougher game at League One Montrose, a team that is usually good value for goals.
Buddies skipper Mark O’Hara was a regular scorer last term and is 6/4 with McBookie to open his account.
Livi head to Brechin and BTTS stands a chance (6/5, Paddy Power) as City smashed 101 goals on their march to the Highland title last term.
Ross County have one of the longest trips in Scotland as they travel to Stranraer. It could take the Staggies time to get up to speed so I’m betting on most goals in the second half (7/6, VBet).
Motherwell also need to put in the miles with a trip to Elgin and the same bet appeals, with VBet offering 7/6 once more.
It’s women’s final day at Wimbledon with Ons Jabeur the odds-on favourite after beating the second and third seeds in her last two games.
Marketa Vondrousova is a 12/5 outsider, having only won one game at Wimbledon before this year’s tournament.
But the Czech has been in fine form so I fancy over 22.5 games at 11/10 with William Hill.
Under 5.5 breaks of serve also appeals and that bet pays 11/10 with Bet365.
