Argentina to Lift the Trophy

Although we must give plenty of credit to both Croatia and Morocco, Argentina vs France is arguably the best final that we could have hoped for. Argentina entered the tournament off the back of a 35-match unbeaten run, however, they were shocked by minnows Saudi Arabia in their opening Group C encounter.
Nevertheless, Lionel Scaloni’s side picked themselves up and dusted themselves down and subsequently, they’ve looked unstoppable. They have significant squad depth and with talisman Lionel Messi seemingly on a one-man crusade to lift the Jules Rimet Trophy, they should be able to end their long wait for success in this competition. They have plenty of grit and determination and with Messi and Alvarez entering this match full of confidence, they will be fancied to go all the way.
France have done superbly so far, however, they were a little lucky against England and they came under severe pressure from Morocco during the second half of their semi-final clash. Les Bleus have had 24 hours less to prepare for this tie and they could potentially still be dealing with illness in the camp. Didier Deschamps will be hoping that no further players have been infected by the bug which ruled Adrien Rabiot out of Wednesday’s clash.
The 2018 winners are unlikely to go down without a fight and they should have enough firepower to get on the scoresheet. Argentina have shown one or two vulnerabilities at the back and could struggle to keep their opponents off the scoresheet. Nevertheless, this is unlikely to be a high-scoring final and correct score bettors may wish to cover 1-1 and 2-1 either way.
Finally, there is nothing more to say about Lionel Messi. He has been superb throughout the tournament and will surely play a major role in this contest. He has almost single-handedly dragged his side through some tricky round of 16 ties and he is unlikely to go down without a fight.
