Pep Guardiola proved at the weekend that he’s happy to prioritise his squad for their upcoming FA Cup and Champions League finals so could see a few changes to his regular line-up once more at Brighton tonight.
That didn’t stop the three-in-a-row champions against Chelsea but the Seagulls should provide a sterner test at the Amex.
Roberto de Zerbi‘s men need just a point to guarantee their place in the Europa League and with it a European debut for the club to cap a terrific season.
Across Europe we’ve seen teams switch off after securing titles, Napoli, Barcelona and Celtic to name a few have all suffered defeats post-silverware and Brighton will be aiming for a repeat of their 3-2 win over City in May 2021 which came after Guardiola’s men were crowned champions.
On the Double Chance market De Zerbi’s men are 21/20 to end City’s run of 12 consecutive wins, for they braver among you they’re 3/1 (SBK) to win whilst the 5/6 on the champions will tempt a few in.
Scottish Premiership
In Scotland there’s still three European places up for grabs. Let’s start at the Scottish Cup, if Inverness beat Celtic they’ll gain the most lucrative spot still remaining; a place in the Europa League play-offs, which comes with it a parachute into the Europa Conference League group stages.
The Hoops are overwhelming favourites at 1/16 to lift the trophy so it’s likely that that spot will be awarded to the team finishing third in the Premiership and with it a guaranteed windfall of at least £3m.
Fourth and fifth-placed teams would then enter the Europa Conference League at the third and second qualifying rounds, respectively. So still plenty to play for with two games to go.
Aberdeen are in pole position as it stands but with a trip to Celtic Park on Saturday will feel they must take all three points against St Mirren tonight.
The Dons are 10/11 to grab the win against Stephen Robinson’s well organised side who impressed in a draw at Celtic Park at the weekend.
Barry Robson’s side have gone three without a win but they’ve the best home record outside the top two. The pressure is on however and if you’re looking for an outsider tonight the Buddies could be it at 16/5.
Celtic’s only win in their last four Premiership matches has come against 10 man Hearts and Ange Postecoglou’s side don’t look their usual formidable selves after securing the title.
That could mean there’s a bit of value on Hibs at Easter Road. The Hibees need a win to keep the pressure on Hearts who they meet on Sunday. They’re 11/2 to win.
Goals look a better option and it’s 4/6 that both teams score and 8/15 for Over 2.5 Goals. Combining both pays 20/21.
At Ibrox Rangers are 4/11 to win their last home match of the season against Hearts (7/1). The Gers’ tails are up after wins over Aberdeen, Celtic and Hibs and Todd Cantwell has been the main man for Michael Beale’s men in recent weeks, scoring in each of those three wins. The former Norwich midfielder is 8/5 to make it four in four.
At the bottom end of the table Dundee United (6/4) could be relegated tonight if they fail to win at home to Kilmarnock (15/8) and Ross County win against St Johnstone in Dingwall.
Three defeats in a row since the split have left United on the brink, however a win tonight would see them leapfrog Killie on goal difference and set up a nail-biter of final day on Sunday.
As for Ross County they look worth a punt at 11/10 against a St Johnstone (5/2) side who are now safe after their vital victory over Kilmarnock on Saturday. Steven MacLean will be out to prove he’s worthy of the Saints job on a permanent basis but the Staggies’ need for a win is much greater tonight.
The remaining match in the Premiership is a dead rubber between Livingston and Motherwell. Livi have limped towards the end of the season but got a long overdue win over Dundee Utd at the weekend. Motherwell on the other hand are one of the form teams in the league, winning three on the bounce.
Kevin Van Veen scored for an incredible ninth match in a row for Well with a 99th minute penalty winner against Ross County. The 31-year-old is enjoying the best season of his career and is 6/4 to make it 10-in-a-row and 9/2 to break the deadlock.
With the Dutchman in such form it’s hard to back against the Steelmen at the Toni Macaroni Stadium, where they’re 7/5 to win.
