For all the millions spent by Pep Guardiola at Manchester City the holy grail of the Champions League trophy has eluded them. So far.
Will this be the season that the blue half of Manchester are crowned European Champions? The bookies seem to think so. Again.
As has been the norm at this stage in recent seasons, City are favourites to end their Champions League hoodoo at just 15/8.
But they’ve exited the competition at the hands of Real Madrid, Chelsea, Lyon, Liverpool and Monaco under Pep so there’s no guarantees over tonight’s tie against RB Leipzig.
Their German opponents were safely tucked in behind Real Madrid in Group F, recovering from 4-1 home defeat to Shakthar Donetsk on the opening matchday to finish six points clear of the Ukrainians and book thier place in the last-16.
Domestically they sit 5th in the table, just four points off the top spot and boast one of the best home records in the Bundesliga.
City have been too inconsistent at times this season to get excited about the 17/20 available on them winning tonight. They’ve only won half of their 12 away games in the Premier League and were held to 0-0 draws in Dortmund and Copenhagen in Group G. Notably, Erling Haaland played just 45 minutes of those two games.
The Champions League is of course Haaland’s stage. The Norwegian hitman has already scored 28 goals in 23 matches so is just two away from hitting the 30-mark, a feat that took Messi 48 matches and Ronaldo 74! He’s already scored six against RB Leipzig during his time at Borussia Dortmund, three doubles in fact. He’s 10/11 to net on his return to Germany tonight and 4/1 to hit a fourth brace against RBL
