While the world’s best strut their stuff in Qatar we’ve got the lower league in Scotland and England to keep our feet on the ground this weekend and we couldn’t be more grateful!
Our focus is north of the border today with a selection of picks from the Championship, League One and League Two.
Scotland’s longest-serving manager, Jim McInally left his post as manager of Peterhead after 11 years. Caretaker boss David Nicholls has a tough assignment today when Dunfermline are the visitors.
It’s top versus bottom with the Pars clear by five points at the summit. They were involved in a coupon-buster last weekend though when they had to come from two goals down to salvage a draw despite being 1/4 shots to win at home to a struggling Clyde.
Peterhead earned a point at Airdrie last week but are still rooted to the bottom of the table. Their paltry 7 points is the lowest across all four SPFL divisions and their 36 goals conceded represents the worst defensive record.
Dunfermline should bounce back to win this one but they’re just 1/2 to do so. A half-time lead for the visitors at 21/20 could be the best way to get some value out of this one but be warned, despite topping the table Dunfermline have only led at half-time in 27% of matches.
It’s a short 8/13 they score two or more and although the 2/1 on them to hit three looks attractive it’s something the Pars have only done twice this season.
In League Two, league-leaders Dumbarton look very backable at 20/21 at home to Forfar. The Sons have won their last four and hold a five point lead at the top of the table, they also boast an unbeaten home record, picking up 16 points from a possible 18 on their own patch.
Forfar prop up the table and have won just one of their last seven in the league. Things are tight near the bottom and a couple of wins could propel them up the table but that price on Dumbarton looks too good to be true. Let’s hope it’s not!
Goals look guaranteed at Stenhousemuir v Bonnyrigg. 12 of Stenny’s 14 matches have seen both teams score and 13 of 14 have seen Over 2.5 goals. Rose, despite being on a poor run of results have found the net in each of their last nine and should be good for a goal at Ochilview. Three or more goals at 8/13 should be good for Accas or combine it with BTTS for a 10/11 shot.
Other goals bets that catch the eye are at Stirling Albion v East Fife where it’s second versus third in League Two. East Fife mayches have been among the most entertaining in the division, their last eight seeing BTTS and Over 2.5 Goals scored. Stirling’s 30 goals makes them the league’s highest scorers and their home matches average 3.57 goals. Add both teams to score to the goals treble at 4/6.
Finally, dip into the National League to complete the Treble at Barnet. Visitors Torquay‘s last six league games have seen a ridiculous 32 goals scored (F14 A18), averaging 5.33 goals per game. In that time they’ve also drawn 2-2 with League One side Derby County and lost 5-0 in the replay.
Over the course of the 19 matches so far this season Barnet boast an average 3.59 total goals per game, the second highest in the division. No surprise to see Over 2.5 at 8/15. Paired with BTTS pays more repsectable 5/6.
