IT’S All Saints Day for the Old Firm in the Premiership as they pray for precious points in the title race after a hellish week in Europe.
Juggling the demands of Champions League football with domestic duties is never easy and Celtic crashed to a shock defeat at St Mirren in the wake of their clash with Shakhtar Donetsk.
Now they’re coming back from another away day in Leipzig and it’s the Perth Saints they face on the road this lunchtime. Ange Postecoglou will have been concerned by his side’s poor display in the second half against Leipzig as they lost control in midfield.
Callum McGregor’s injury played a big part in that and it will be interesting to see how the Hoops cope without their skipper today. Perth has been a happy hunting ground for Celtic as they’ve won on their last 11 visits to McDiarmid Park.
That’s why McBookie make them 1/5 hot favourites today with Saints as big as 14/1. The corner markets are always worth a look with Postecoglou’s free-flowing side and I like the evens on offer at Bet365 for Celtic -5 in the handicap.
St Johnstone will try to knock the Hoops off their stride and that makes over 3.5 match cards another good option at evens with McBookie. Jota scored Celtic’s goal in Germany but I’m more drawn to the 23/20 on offer at McBookie for the winger to provide an assist at McDiarmid Park.
St Mirren will look to complete an Old Firm double as they head to Ibrox seeking another famous scalp.
The Buddies are flying high in third place after winning six of their last seven games and will be hoping Gers have one eye on their Champions League revenge mission against Liverpool.
I was surprised how defensive Giovanni van Bronckhorst was at Anfield in midweek after watching Brighton score three goals in Liverpool last weekend. But the shackles will be off again back on domestic duty as Rangers bid to break down Stephen Robinson’s well-drilled St Mirren backline. I’m going for the corner market in this one as well with Unibet pricing over 7.5 Gers corners at 26/25.
I’m also drawn to the 21/10 on offer at McBookie for a penalty to be awarded as we haven’t seen one yet at Ibrox this term in the Premiership.
There’s an intriguing clash at Easter Road as Hibs host a Motherwell side who thrashed Ross County 5-0 in midweek. Lee Johnson’s side are finally starting to hit their stride, with three successive wins moving them up to fourth.
But the Steelmen are just a point behind them and will fancy their chances after that superb display in Dingwall. It bodes well for an open game so I’m going for both teams to score at evens with William Hill while over 2.5 goals is a little better at 10/9 with SportNation.
There’s a cracker tonight at Tannadice as rock-bottom Dundee United host a resurgent Aberdeen side. United let me down last weekend when I tipped them to beat St Johnstone at home in Liam Fox’s first game as permanent manager.
So the Dons are mighty tempting at 23/20 with Coral to pile on the pain for long-suffering Arabs. United picked up five cards last weekend so I’m backing them for over 2.5 cards here at 11/8 with Unibet.
Ross County desperately need a victory at Livingston to kickstart their season after taking just two points from their last six league games.
I’m going for over 10.5 corners in this one (5/4, Paddy Power) as that bet has landed in the last three meetings.
Hearts head to Rugby Park tomorrow off the back of another humbling Euro defeat to Fiorentina. I’m surprised to see Killie as big as 41/17 with VBet and that could be worth a punt.
- Jota assist (23/20, McBookie).
- Penalty awarded at Ibrox (21/10, McBookie).
- Over 2.5 goals at Easter Road (10/9, SportNation).
- Over 2.5 Dundee United cards (11/8, Unibet).
