Sunday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me head to Scandinavia and there’s one fixture in the Norwegian second-tier that stands out to me for goals.
Ranheim vs Sogndal
🇳🇴 OBOS-ligaen
⏰ Sunday 17th July, 14:00
Two sides who’ll look to strengthen their place in the playoff-places in the Norwegian OBOS-ligaen table meet at the EXTRA Arena on Sunday afternoon, as third-placed Ranheim play host to fifth-placed Sogndal.
Ranheim saw their eight-match unbeaten run come to an end last time out, as they lost 3-2 away to the side directly below them in the table, Sandnes Ulf. Hugo Pereira’s side are still unbeaten in their last four at home, winning each of their last three, including a 4-0 victory over Skeid in their last league outing in front of their own supporters. Only runaway league leaders Brann (39) have scored more goals in the OBOS-ligaen than Ranheim (27), with 13 of those coming in their last four matches at home. The Trondheim-based side has conceded 20 goals so far this season, with their two clean sheets coming against two of the bottom three sides in the league table.
Sogndal got back to winning ways last time, as they ran out 4-0 winners at home to bottom side Grorud. Tore André Flo’s side have had contrasting fortunes on their travels this season, with them having won two, drawn two and lost two of their six away fixtures, losing 3-2 at KFUM in their last league outing on the road. Sogndal have conceded in each of their last five away from home, letting in 13 goals in those matches. Sogndal have found the back of the net in all bar one of their 14 matches in the Norwegian second-tier so far this season, scoring on 25 occasions, with only league leaders Brann (39) and their upcoming opponents Ranheim (27) having scored more.
Bet of the Day
These two sides have had fine season’s so far, with Ranheim only outside the automatic promotion places on goal-difference, whilst Sogndal are only three points worse off. Sogndal, who are managed by ex Chelsea and Rangers striker Tore André Flo, have found the back of the net in 13/14 of their league fixtures, scoring 25 goals and will expect to increase that tally against a Ranheim defence that’s two solitary clean sheets this season have come against two of the bottom three teams. Only league leaders Brann have scored more goals in the division than the 27 Ranheim have managed, and they should also add to their goals tally against a Sogndal defence that’s conceded 13 goals in their last five fixtures on their travels. Given both sides records at both ends of the pitch so far this season, I envisage an open and high-scoring encounter, therefore, I’m happy to take a chance on there being four or more goals scored in Trondheim on Sunday afternoon.
