The Dublin Derby dominates Friday’s fixture card in Ireland tonight as Bohemians make the trip to Tallaght to face rivals Shamrock Rovers.
Rovers lead the way at the top of the table but defeat at Dundalk last week saw their gap reduced to five points having played a game more than the Lilywhites. Bohs would love nothing more than to deliver another blow to their rivals’ title challenge.
However they’d need to do something only Sligo Rovers have managed so far and that’s to come away from the southside with at least a point. Rovers are unbeaten at home (W9 D1) and haven’t lost on their own turf to Bohs since 2019.
Eight of the last 14 league meetings between the sides have finished with just a single goal scored so it could take a solitary strike to split the teams tonight. Rovers are favourites to take all three points and it’s 13/2 for a 1-0 home win. A Shamrock Rovers win to nil pays 13/8.
Team of the moment are Dundalk and they need to follow up last week’s 1-0 win over Shamrock Rovers with another win at Shelbourne tonight. They’ve an excellent record in this fixture, winning nine and drawing the other of the last 10 meetings.
This could be a bit of a banana skin for Stephen O’Donnell’s side but the bookies have priced them up at a very tempting 7/5 when recent form would suggest they should maybe be a bit closer to evens.
Shels held Dundalk to a draw at Tolka Park in March when a late penalty earned them a point but despite picking up 10 points at home they’ve struggled against the top teams, losing to Shamrock Rovers, Bohs, Derry and St Pats on their own soil.
As much as the 7/5 looks like a bookies trap it’s difficult to turn it down based on Dundalk’s recent form.
Finn Harps have taken just 6 points from the last 45 available so St Pats at odds against look worth taking on. The Dubliners boast the second best away record in the top flight while Finn Harps have the second worst home record, so again, the 23/20 on the visitors appeals.
