IT’S looking more and more likely that the festive period’s football will be disrupted with postponements, and the latest to be called off is tonight’s clash between Brentford and Manchester United.
The Premier League has reported a record number of positives tests over a seven day period with six clubs affected so far. Hopefully everyone involved is OK and disruption is kept to a minimum, for all of us, in the coming weeks.
That leaves us just two top flight matches tonight, the first of which is at Carrow Road where Dean Smith will face his former club just weeks after vacating the Aston Villa hotseat. Both sides suffered defeat at the weekend and both will be without players due to outbreaks at their clubs.
But it’s Villa who are favourites at 5/4 and understably so after Steven Gerrard has guided them to three wins from five since his appointment. Norwich’s big problem is scoring goals, they’ve failed to score in 10 of their 16 league fixtures this season, however Villa have kept just one clean sheet in 14 Premier League away fixtures. A Villa win with both team scoring pays 3/1.
Leeds would be a big price to win at the Etihad even if they had a full squad to choose from but they’ll be without Kalvin Phillips, Patrick Bamford and Liam Cooper so no surprise to see them as big as 16/1 to repeat last season’s victory in Manchester.
City are starting to purr and boast the best defensive record in the league, conceding just nine in sixteen. Only two teams from eight vistors have found the net at the Etihad. City are 1/7 to win but backing them to do so without conceding pays 4/5.
In Scotland both Hibs and Dundee are desperate for a win. Hibs relieved Jack Ross of his duties last week so are under the temprary charge of David Gray. He saw his side lose a late equaliser at St Mirren at the weekend to deny him a winning start.
A win for Dundee would see them move to just a point behind Hibs but James McPake’s side continue to ship goals. Only Rangers and Ross County matches see more goals than Dundee’s so the 11/10 on there being Over 2.5 Goals at Easter Road appeals.
