Monday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me once again focus on the European World Cup Qualifiers. I’ve picked out my favourite two selections to give us a nice looking double.
Croatia vs Slovakia
🇪🇺 Europe – World Cup Qualifier
⏰ Monday 11th October, 19:45
Croatia host Slovakia at the Stadion Gradski vrt in Osijek on Monday evening. The hosts currently top Group H on goal difference above Russia. The visitors meanwhile lie in 4th position and seven points off the summit.
Croatia defeated Cyprus 0-3 in Larnaca on Friday evening to remain top of Group G. That’s now three wins in a row for the Croats, with them also unbeaten in their last six group games, collecting 16/18 points. What more, that’s now six successive clean sheets for Croatia in the group, with only Denmark posting a better defensive record of all the European sides. Croatia have scored 11 goals in the group, with all five of their victories seeing less than four strikes.
Slovakia come into this fixture suffering a damaging defeat to Russia last time out as they lost 1-0. That now makes it virtually impossible for the Slovaks to qualify for the 2022 World Cup as they lie seven points behind both Russia and Croatia with only three games to play. Slovakia are yet to win on their travels in Group G, with them drawing with Slovenia and a struggling Cyprus side, as well as that Russian defeat. Slovakia have lost on their last three visits to Croatia, including a 3-1 defeat in the last qualification campaign for Euro 2020.
North Macedonia vs Germany
🇪🇺 Europe – World Cup Qualifier
⏰ Monday 11th October, 19:45
Germany travel to Skopje to take on North Macedonia at the Toše Proeski Arena on Monday evening. This is a meeting between the top two sides in Group J, with Germany holding a seven point lead over their opponents.
After three successive draws, North Macedonia got back to winning ways last time out as they defeated minnows Lichtenstein 0-4 to go up to 2nd position above Armenia on goal difference. Whilst they will be delighted to be sitting in second spot, North Macedonia will be somewhat frustrated at failing to defeat group rivals Armenia and Romania at home and throwing away a two goal lead to Iceland in Reykjavík.
German boss Hansi Flick has made a perfect start to life as German manager since taking over from Joachim Löw, winning his first four matches, scoring 14 goals. Those wins have Germany firmly in control of Group J, with them knowing a win will secure their place at Qatar next year. Germany have not lost a qualifier away from home since a 1-0 defeat in Dublin to the Republic of Ireland in 2015, winning each of their last 12 and scoring at least twice in 11 of those victories. Germany have won 6/7 of their group games so far, with them scoring a total of 19 goals.
Bet of the Day
With Russia on their tails, Croatia know they need to keep winning if they are to finish top of Group G. Such has been their impressive form and their superb defensive record, I’m expecting them to defeat a goal shy Slovakia side, in a victory that will see fewer than five goals. Germany will be seeking revenge from their shock home defeat to North Macedonia in March, by defeating them in their own backyard. A win will see them book their place to next years World Cup in Qatar, and I fully expect them to achieve that on Monday evening. With the German’s having plenty of attacking talent on show, I’m expecting them to score at least twice in victory over North Macedonia.
- Croatia to win & under 4.5 goals
- Germany to win & over 1.5 goals
- Double Pays 13/10 (Bet Victor)
