The Scottish season got under way at the weekend with a round of matches in the newly-sponsored Premier Sports Cup and tonight sees the next set of fixtures in the group stages of the competition.
Three Premiership clubs are in action against lower league opposition and the pick of the ties could be at Tynecastle where Championship winners Hearts host ambitious Cove Rangers. It’s a match that sees former Hearts player and Scottish Cup winner Paul Hartley return to his former haunt as gaffer of the highland club but he’ll need to overcome the odds to produce a result.
Bookies rate Cove as 11/1 chances to leave Edinburgh with a win but a better bet could be the 4/5 on them finding the net.
Dunfermline enjoyed an excellent 4-2 win at Firhill on Saturday but face a much tougher assignment in Paisley tonight. St Mirren were left kicking their heels after their match with Dumbarton was postponed but should be raring to go and look a decent price at 3/5.
Newly-promoted Dundee host Brora Rangers of the Highland League who were soundly beaten by Montrose at the weekend and could be in for a long night at Dens Park. A bet that won for us on Saturday was backing Hearts to score two or more while keeping a clean sheet and it can pay again this time for Dundee.
There’s a whole host of Champions League Qualifier Second Legs on Tuesday too. Linfield need to recover from a 1-3 first leg defeat to Lithuanians Zalgris if they’re to stay in the competition. Shamrock Rovers also have a two-goal deficit to overturn on Wednesday after a 2-0 defeat to Slovan Bratislava. Both games are previewed by Tolu below.
