After nailing another winner on Saturday, SlipsTips takes a look at the Bet Builder market ahead of Rangers Scottish Cup showdown with Celtic on Sunday.
Rangers vs Celtic (Sunday, 15:00)
Celtic will hope to salvage something from a disappointing season when they travel to arch-rivals Rangers in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup on Sunday.
The Hoops meekly surrendered their Scottish Premiership title to their old foes, sitting an astonishing 20 points behind Steven Gerrard’s rampant side with four rounds of Scottish Premiership fixtures left to play.
However, Celtic have shown some signs of recovery in recent weeks and they will be desperate to sign off for the season with a fifth-successive Scottish Cup triumph.
Rangers, on the other hand, have been in imperious form at Ibrox this season and having dethroned Celtic in such comprehensive fashion, Gerrard and Co will now be targeting Scottish Cup glory.
Given what’s at stake here, coupled with the Old Firm derby being a notoriously difficult fixture to call, I’m going to swerve the match result market and instead head to William Hill‘s Build Your Odds feature.
If we combine under five match goals, 40+ booking points and each team to take a corner in each half we can get some 19/20 (William Hill) and that makes appeal.
Each of the last 10 Old Firm derbies have featured fewer than five match strikes, with only two games from that sample producing over 2.5 goals.
What’s more, Rangers have conceded on only three occasions when playing at their Govan base in the Scottish Premiership this season, while Celtic have chalked up five clean sheets across their last six matches.
With all of that in mind, I’m more than happy to side with under five match strikes on Sunday, but in order to boost up the price, I’ll also throw 40+ booking points into the equation.
Sparks tend to fly when the Old Firm lock horns, with each of the previous three meetings – all of which were played behind closed doors – generating at least 40+ booking points.
Bobby Madden is the man in the middle on Sunday and it’s worth noting that the Scottish whistler has flashed four or more cards in each of the last six Old Firm fixtures that he has taken charge of, one of which was at Ibrox earlier this season.
I’ll complete the Bet Builder by backing each team to to take at least one corner in each half – Rangers and Celtic rank first and second respectively in the team corner charts in the Scottish Premiership this season, not to mention the above-mentioned combination clicked during last month’s league meeting at Celtic Park.
