Here is McBookie.com’s Damian Walker with his SPFL First Goalscorer selections for this weekend.
Jay Emmanuel-Thomas (Livingston)
I’m starting this weekend’s column where I left off the last one by tipping Livingston once again.
Livi have been on a incredible run since David Martindale took over as boss and following last weekend’s 2-0 win at Pittodrie, it took their tally to 11 wins and three draws from their last 14 games (and two of those draws were against Celtic).
That form has taken the Lions up to fifth place in the Premiership table and to a League Cup final against St Johnstone on February 28th.
And as luck would have it we get an early chance to assess the two finalists as Livingston host St Johnstone in the Premiership this weekend.
The Perth Saints have been in fair form themselves, but I just have to be with Livingston at 29/20 given the unreal run they are on. I would have been much shorter.
Finding a Livingston first scorer is a little more tricky as the goals have tended to be shared out among the squad this season.
Jay Emmanuel-Thomas had nine English clubs before joining Livingston and although he hasn’t set the world alight since moving north he has scored some important goals this season.
McBookie make him 6/1 to score the opening goal of the game.
Oli Shaw (Ross County)
Staying in the Premiership and Dundee United have been horrible form this year and are without a win in eight games in 2021 and have lost their last three.
On Saturday they travel to the Highlands to face Ross County and after that have games against Livingston, Rangers, Kilmarnock, Celtic and Aberdeen.
It is probably too early for them to start worrying about automatic relegation as Hamilton Accies are 8/13 for the automatic drop, but Dundee United don’t win on Saturday, points could be in very short supply right through to the end of March and their 22/1 finish bottom quote might look a lot, lot shorter.
The Staggies are 11/8 to inflict a fourth straight defeat to Dundee United and I think they might do just that after a come-from-behind crucial win over Hamilton Accies in midweek.
Ross County forward Oli Shaw has led the way with Premiership goals for them this season and has eight from 24 in all competitions.
He scored twice, including the opener, in their 4-1 win over Aberdeen last month, and is 14/5 with McBookie to score first on Saturday.
Declan McManus (Dunfermline)
Finally, in the Championship Dunfermline look good value are around Evens to win away to Arbroath.
The Pars leapfrogged Fife rivals Raith Rovers into second in the table, with a thumping 4-1 win in midweek and ought to have too much for the Red Lichties.
Declan McManus ended a five-game barren run with the opening goal on Wednesday and he is 4/1 with McBookie to be the game’s first goalscorer.
First Goalscorer Tips
- Jay Emmanuel-Thomas 6/1 (McBookie)
- Oli Shaw 14/5 (McBookie)
- Declan McManus 4/1 (McBookie)
