Celtic vs Ross County (14:00)
The clouds are circling above Neil Lennon’s head after Celtic’s troubled start to the season, and the Northern Irishman can ill-afford another setback when Ross County come to town on Sunday.
Successive 4-1 defeats by Sparta Prague have piled the pressure on the Celtic Park boss but the Hoops should get the better of Ross County in the second round of the Betfred Cup.
The Staggies themselves have struggled for form in recent months, having failed to record a win in their last seven Scottish Premiership matches.
Last time out Stuart Kettlewell’s side were on the wrong end of a 3-1 defeat at 10-man Kilmarnock, despite playing more than 80 minutes at Rugby Park with a man advantage.
That does not bode well ahead of a cup clash with a wounded Celtic side, and this fixture looks like a good chance for Lennon’s charges to restore some confidence.
With that in mind, as well as the fact that Ross County are averaging two cards per game this term – the highest average in the top-flight – I’m going to combine over one Celtic goal and over zero Ross County cards as the first half of my Bet Builder double.
Falkirk vs Rangers (17:00)
Rangers take their unbeaten record to League One leaders Falkirk on Sunday teatime where they will be presented with the opportunity to seal a place in the quarter-finals of the Scottish League Cup.
Steven Gerrard’s side have avoided defeat in each of their 22 matches across all competitions this season, an eye-catching sequence that coincides with a staggering 17 clean sheets.
The Liverpool legend has made the Light Blues competitive at home and on the continent, but the Ibrox faithful are still itching for a first major trophy in nine years.
Falkirk fans have also had little to cheer about in recent years after watching their side get relegated to the third-tier of Scottish football, before being denied the opportunity to bounce back at the first time of asking after the 2019/20 campaign was controversially curtailed.
Indeed, co managers David McCracken and Lee Miller have brought a real sense of optimism back to the Falkirk Stadium, but a Betfred Cup bout with red-hot Rangers seems an obvious bridge too far for the Bairns.
