IT was supposed to be the first all-Manchester FA Cup Final but instead we have a London derby.
Chelsea and Arsenal upset the odds to KO City and United respectively in the semi-finals to set up today’s Wembley meeting and their fifth final in all competitions.
The Blues won the 2007 League Cup and last season’s Europa League while Arsenal beat their rivals in the FA Cup finals in 2002 and 2017.
In what looks a fairly even contest the value lies with the Gunners who are a best 12-5 at bet365 and Betfred to win in 90 minutes and 11-8 at Paddy Power to lift the trophy.
Chelsea, who finished 10 points ahead of Arsenal in the Premier League, are 11-10 at bet365 and 8-13 at William Hill respectively.
So why go against the Gunners? Since the restart they’ve been in decent form, beating sides such as Liverpool, Man City and Wolves and they’ve lost just three of 11 against Chelsea.
Skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been firing on all cylinders and remember this could be his last match for the club.
He wants Champions League football and won’t get it at the Emirates – in fact if Arsenal don’t win there will be no European football at all.
The Gabon star has netted 27 goals this season, including four in his last three games, and is 23-5 at Unibet to score first and 8-5 at Unibet to net at any time.
Boss Mikel Arteta out-thought his old boss Pep Guardiola in the semis and is expected to deploy similar holding tactics today.
It’s a system that suits the Gunners well and they’re up against a Blues forward line that isn’t in the same class as City’s.
Frank Lampard may look to old stager Olivier Giroud, who is 7-4 with bet365 to score, but has young talent in the shape of Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham who provide decent firepower.
Brazilian midfielder Willian, a deadball expert, could provide value at 3-1 with Betway to net at any time.
Another key man for Chelsea could be Cristian Pulisic who scored a cracker in the 5-3 defeat at Liverpool. The left winger has been in good form and is 5-2 at Betway to net.
Both to score has a decent chance with Chelsea keeping just three clean sheets in the last 18.
That pays a best 3-4 at bet365 while over 2.5 goals is bigger at 10-11 at William Hill and BetVictor.
The two league meetings this season have landed btts and overs – 2-2 and 2-1 Chelsea in Arteta’s first match.
Meanwhile, Coral have made Man City evens favourites to regain the Premier League title next season.
Liverpool are 11-8 to defend their crown with Man United (8-1) and Chelsea (12-1) after they secured Champions League football.
Coral spokesman Harry Aitkenhead said: “City’s form since the resumption of the Premier League was absolutely fantastic and in our eyes they are the favourites to win the league next year. It could be a four-horse race if all the sides strengthen.”
