Cup upsets were few and far between on Saturday, let’s see if there’s any on the cards on Sunday.
In-form Bolton will fancy their chances at Kenilworth Road where Luton Town are the hosts.
Wanderers have won four in a row and sit second in the League One table, just two points behind Portsmouth with two games in hand but at 7/2 probably aren’t big enough to get too excited about, especially given how well top flight teams have fared against lower league sides so far.
It might therefore be better to get on them to score two or more at 11/4. QPR and Stoke both did so against Premier League opposition yesterday even though they didn’t win.
Peterborough at home to Leeds Utd is another on the upset shortlist. Posh sit third in League One and have lost just once at London road this campaign. Leeds are are a full division above them but haven’t been great on the road this season, winning just five of 13 away from Elland Road.
It’s 16/5 on the home win which seems reasonable enough but again, goals could be a better route to profit. Peterborough are the third tier’s highest scorers, averaging two per match while Leeds have kept just four clean sheets on the road. Two or more goals for the home side pays 2/1.
Tie of the Round is at the Emirates where 4th in the Premier League host 1st for a place in the Fourth Round.
It’s been a decade since the sides last met in the FA Cup, Arsenal triumphing in a 2-1 home win en route to lifting the trophy in 2014.
The Gunners hold the advantage today as well according to the bookies who make them 20/21 (SBK) favourites to win inside the 90 minutes, with Liverpool at 5/2.
Mikel Arteta could certainly do a with a victory to reignite things at the Emirates. It’s just one win in six for the Gunners currently and an early exit for the 14-time winners would add to the doom and gloom.
Liverpool come in to the match with their own issues; a growing list of absentees, most notably Mohamed Salah who is on international duty at the African Cup of Nations. They’ll also be without Wataru Endo and Dominik Szoboszlai who have both made big contributions to their campaign.
Salah has scored in four of his last five appearances against the Gunners so his absence will be keenly felt and that could swing things in Arsenal’s favour.
