With two rounds of fixtures to go there’s still plenty at stake in the Champions League group stages.
RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Real Sociedad and current champions, Manchester City have already qualified but top spot is still up for grabs in seven of the eight groups.
To get a handle on things check out BBC Sport’s explanation of who needs what to qualify.
Back-to-back defeats to Borussia Dortmund have left Newcastle with it all to do in Group F. The Magpies have a date in Paris tonight and defeat to PSG would see Eddie Howe’s men knocked out of the competition.
A rousing St James’ Park propelled Newcastle to a brilliant 4-1 win over the French champions on Matchday 2 but things could be a little different tonight. A win for PSG will put them in pole position in the group and could even be enough for them to qualify if Milan fail to beat Dortmund.
Mpabbe and co. have already taken care of business on home soil, beating Dortmund 2-0 and Milan 3-0 so will be unfazed by tonight’s visitors and look solid enough at 8/13. It’s also 8/13 for the Ligue 1 side to score two or more and 5/6 if you combine both in a BetBuilder.
Man City’s work is just about done in Group G. They’ve already qualified and a point against RB Leipzig will ensure top spot.
RBL have qualified too so this could go one of two ways; a dull dead rubber with nothing much to play for, or two teams just going for it without having to worry about the consequences. If you fancy the latter it’s 6/5 for a repeat of their meeting on Matchday 2 and four (or more) goals to be scored.
Despite just one point from four games and a -9 goal difference it’s still mathematically possible for Celtic to qualify from Group E.
First things first, they need to win against Lazio tonight (a 19/4 shot), whilst scoring two or more, and hope that Atletico Madrid (8/5 Bet365) can do them a favour by beating Feyenoord.
They’ll take hope from their last trip to Rome when Olivier Ntcham secured a famous victory with a late winner in 2019 but it was the Italians who turned the tables when the sides met earlier in the competition, Pedro popping up in the 95th minute to snatch a 2-1 win.
The Hoops went toe-to-toe with the Serie A side at Celtic Park but it’s usually a tale of woe on the road. It’s now 16 away games in Europe since Celtic kept a clean sheet and it’s difficult to see a shut out tonight.
With that in mind the 7/10 on Over 2.5 goals looks like it will be a good start on a goals acca tonight as does the 8/13 on two or more Lazio goals.
Shakhtar Donetsk could be the best bet of the night at 21/20 to beat Antwerp in neutral Hamburg. The Ukrainians pulled off the result of Matchday 4 with a 1-0 win over 5-time winners Barcelona and could still top the group.
Antwerp are one only two teams without a point a across the competition and have the worst defensive record. They surrendered a two-goal lead to Shakhtar last month which won’t fill them with much confidence ahead of tonight’s 5.45pm kick-off.
Looking elsewhere tonight there’s a clutch of games in the Championship, strong cards in League One and Two as well as a smattering of matches in Scotland.
QPR look like they should still be opposed. New manager Marti Cifuentes hasn’t turned things around just yet and its now 11 without a win for Rangers. Visitors Stoke suffered their first defeat in six against Blackburn at the weekend and have failed to score in their last three games. At 5/4 for the away win its as much a bet against QPR than for Stoke.
There could be goals at Watford v Norwich. The Canaries’ 1-0 win over QPR was the first in six that didn’t go over 2.5 goals whilst the Hornets have score two or more in five of their last six at Vicarage Road. Over 2.5 Goals pays 17/20.
There were another 44 goals in the 11 League Two matches on Saturday (3.66 per game) with nine see both teams score and the same number going Over 2.5 Goals.
Notts County, who were beaten 4-2 at AFC Wimbledon, continue to be the most entertaining with 74 goals scored in their 19 games so far (3.9 per match). Swindon aren’t far behind on 72 goals.
The Over 2.5 goal double on their games tonight pays 135/100.
Wins for Hamilton and Falkirk will be a popular double at a shade over 6/5. Both sides lead the way in League One. Montrose could be a tricky trip for Falkirk but Hamilton who have been knocked out of the Challenge Cup and Scottish Cup in recent weeks can get back to winning ways on league duty at struggling Annan.
